How to Replace Tumble Dryer Belt Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda, Proline, etc.

If your Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda or Proline tumble dryer is not drying? If the drum in your dryer no longer rotates or turns, the chances are your drum-belt may have snapped or worn.

This video will show you How to replace a tumble dryer belt in a Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda or Proline machine

The first thing you will notice if your tumble dryer belt has snapped, is the dryer is making a motor noise but the drum is not turning or the dryer is not drying. If the drum in your dryer is no longer rotating the chances are that your drum-belt may have snapped, you end up with a warm, damp pile of clothes! take the lid of the appliance to check this. If the tumble dryer belt has snapped then follow this tumble dryer repair guide and watch the video tutorial.

  • Safety first! Unplug the machine from the wall-socket and make sure the machine is cool.
  • Remove the top cover of the machine by undoing the 2 screws at the back of the top panel.
  • You should now be able to see if the belt is broken or not.

Now follow the steps in the video to replace the belt all the models are listed below which this video is good for.

The trick to fitting the belt is to hold the belt with the tube that i show you in the video with your left hand as shown, and with your other hand, push the drum clockwise until you can get the belt to loop over the motor shaft pulley.

Once this is in place, the hard work is over. Rotate the drum slowly by hand to make sure the belt is able to travel unhindered and line up on the pulley wheel correctly. Now is your chance to hoover [vacuum] out the machine! Reconnect the panels and test machine

Thank you. The belt replacement video brightened up a wet and stormy afternoon. It was very clear. I’m trying to help out a friend whose hotpoint tumble drier has stopped turning. If I finally fix it I will ‘buy Paul? a beer’ and /or subscribe to your website.
    Well done.

    Hi Paul
The Hotpoint I had a problem of the dryer tripping the fuses. I suspected the fluff was causing a heaver load on the motor. When I opened up the unit I discovered loads of Fluff. Cleaned it out. However I made the mistake of taking off the knob off the timer. The front section of the timer came adrift and would not engage properly. Had to remove timer and I may have lost a spring . Have the big one from the shaft but there is one latch without a spring. does it need this? Do you have an image of the timers innards?

It’s a great and very informative video that has helped me fix my dryer. The only point I’d like to make is about the lack of mention of the most important tool needed. The 6″ length of pipe to get the belt on! I certainly didn’t have anything resembling that so had to go to a diy store to buy a piece of piping and cut it down.

    • it was in the video lol but not in the tool box

Hi, I have a Hotpoint AQC9BF7E1 and need to replace the belt and pulley wheel. I can do everything except getting the belt to stretch over the pulley wheel and motor spindle (using pipe didn’t work)! Can you please help with tips on how to do this? It seems that the belt is not long enough although it is the correct model/make number etc!

Followed the instructions and went all ok until i had to put the front back on, kept slipping out. I tried for an hour to measure up until I decided to take the belt off (reluctantly) and start again.

    Not easy but great instructions.
