How to Replace the Belt on a Bush Tumble Dryer That’s Not Turning?

Is your Bush or Logik tumble dryer not turning?

If your Bush or Logik tumble dryer isn’t turning, there could be one of two issues. If you press the start button and hear a humming noise, the problem might be with the capacitor. If you press the start button and the drum doesn’t turn, it’s likely that the belt has either fallen off or snapped.

The tumble dryers come with different belts, so it may be confusing. Always go by the original belt number that you take off or find at the bottom of your machine. For example, this machine has a 1952 belt, but it can also fit a 1950 and a 1951. These numbers indicate the belt’s length in millimeters. For instance, 1952 is 1,952 mm in overall length. The 6PH indicates how many ribs are on the belt.

Bush washing machines are made by a company called Vestel, and most of the components are the same for various brands under the Vestel umbrella.

Safety First!

  • Unplug your Bush tumble dryer before starting work.
  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Screwdrivers (various sizes) or chargeable drill with correct extensions (if you have one).

Disassembly of Logik or Bush Tumble Dryer

First, disconnect your Bush or Logik Tumble Dryer from the power supply, then remove the lid. Disconnect the heater and the thermostat to remove the back panel.

You’ll find the machine’s model number on an identification plate on the back and sometimes a label inside the door. If your machine is a vented tumble dryer, remove the vent tube using a flat-blade screwdriver. Now, remove the screws around the machine. This will allow you to lift the panel up and out of the way.

Removing Tumble Dryer Belt

Remove the old belt and clean the entire system. Once you’ve removed the old belt, you can see the number on it (for example, 6PH 1952). Always match up the belt correctly. The 1950 and 1951 belts on some of the Bush machines are the same; they’re only 2 mm longer.

Ensure the pulley wheel has no side-to-side movement, as this could also cause problems with the belt. Overloading the machine usually causes the belt to snap. This machine has a 7-kilo capacity, so always use it with the correct weight level.

Fitting the New Belt

To replace the belt, you’ll need to undo two screws on one side of the heating bracket. Lift the drum off the chassis and place the new belt around the two clips. Avoid disassembling the entire machine, as it could make reassembly more difficult. Once you’ve secured one side, replace the screws and repeat on the other side.

To install the belt properly, pull it down just on one side. The motor is spring-loaded, and you’ll need to rotate it a couple of times.

You’ve successfully replaced the belt on your tumble dryer, and it should be working perfectly again.
