Convection Oven Not Heating? How To Test & Replace Elements?
How to Change a Base Element In a Single Built-In Oven?
In this guide, we will teach you how to change a base element in a single built-in oven. This repair guide particularly applies to an oven that is heating but not reaching the required temperature.
First, identify your oven's model number, which can usually be found on a label inside at the bottom or on the rear of the machine. If your oven is getting to about 100-120 degrees and not cooking food properly, then one of the elements may be faulty.
We would recommend you watch our video since we're showing how easily you can change your oven's base element.
The element used in this video is a replacement for R2100011, 040199009977R, 040199009943R, R2100026, 040199009927R, 40199009977R

Checking & Testing the Elements
To check this, you will need to remove the oven from its housing and remove the top and back of the machine. Using a multimeter, you can test the elements. Start by undoing the three screws on either side at the top and then remove the back plate.
In the video, we have an oven with an element at the top and an element at the bottom. In a conventional convection oven like this, when it's on normal oven mode, it uses half the element at the top and the base element.
To test the element, first, remove two wires from the right-hand side of the element. Check the continuity and ohms reading on the multimeter. For example, a reading of 63 ohms at 240 volts gives roughly 900 watts on the outer part of the element.
Next, remove the wires from the base element. If there is no continuity, the element is open circuit and needs to be replaced.
Replacing & Reconnecting the Elements
To replace the element, remove the two screws holding it in place and then slide out the old element. When fitting the new element, ensure the insulation is in good condition. Slide the new element in place and secure it with the screws.
After fitting the new element, this should resolve the heating problem.
After installing the new element, it's time to reconnect the electrics. Make sure to reconnect the earth wire, which is crucial for safety. Put your oven to the test once everything is connected back up.
You should now be able to see your oven working at its full capacity, reaching the desired temperature and cycling as per the thermostat settings.
By following these steps, you can successfully remove your oven's heating element. Remember, you can watch our video to avoid any potential problems.
