I’ve got a Beko BBIF12300X oven, and while the main oven seems to be working, the grill element simply isn’t heating up at all. It’s making grilling impossible. What are the common reasons for a grill element to stop working on this model and how can I fix it?

I will try and help with this problem about Beko BBIF12300X Oven,

Hi Oliver, sorry to hear about the issue with your Beko BBIF12300X oven’s grill element. When the grill element stops heating, there are a few potential causes to consider. I will provide couple of suggestions on how to fix them. I’ve also included exploded diagrams, service manual, and related videos on grill element faults with Beko BBIF12300X ovens below that might help you.

One common issue is a faulty grill element itself. Over time, the element can wear out or burn out completely, preventing it from heating up. Even if the rest of the oven is working fine, a old and broken grill element will not function properly.

If your oven heats up on the conventional fan oven mode, it usually means the fan motor and fan oven element are working fine. However, if it doesn’t heat up on grill mode, there might be an issue with the grill element. You should test the element to check for continuity or use a multimeter to ensure the wattage is correct. You can get a new multimeter via our Amazon affiliate link.

To do this, you’ll need to move the cooker out and remove the back panel to access the grill element. If the grill element is open circuit, you’ll need to replace it. Other possible issues could be with the selector switch or thermostat. The selector switch is located at the top of the oven and can usually be inspected visually. If any terminals are burnt, it might indicate that the selector switch has gone open circuit on the grill function.

To resolve this issue, you might start by inspecting the grill element for any visible signs of damage, such as cracks or burn marks. If it looks damaged, replacing it should fix the problem.

If the element appears intact, you might need to test the thermostat and temperature sensor, as well as check the wiring connections to ensure everything is secure and undamaged. If you’re comfortable doing so, you can use a multimeter to check for continuity in the grill element and other components.

In the video, I mentioned about 5 common problems.;

  1. Oven will not heat because the element is faulty.
  2. Oven won’t heat because timer on manual.
  3. Oven won’t heat because of a fault with thermostat or selector switch.
  4. Oven not cooking evenly (one element faulty or fan not working correctly).
  5. Oven not reaching temperature normally an element but possible fan motor.

Coomon Problems with Electrical Ovens

  • The oven will not turn on

The first thing you need to check is that the oven timer is not on auto if it is, turn it on to manual.

  • No Heat in Oven

If the fan is running and the thermostat light comes on but you get no heat (or just the thermostat light on in non-fan ovens and cookers) then the probability is that the fan element or oven elements have failed.

  • Electricity trips (Rcd) when I turn the oven on or grill

This is normally an element that has gone to earth, This is a well-known fault with electric ovens, the insulation breaks down in the elements and trips the RCD , best way is to stick a meter on each element and check that they have not got earth leaks on them. But this can also be a wiring fault.

  • The grill element doesn’t work

This would usually indicate that the grill element is faulty. Check these: Grill element, Oven changeover switch, Overheat thermostat, Main oven thermostat, if used to regulate the grill temperature.

  • The oven fan is not working or spinning correctly (slow) or is noisy

The fan motor may need to be replaced see video on this also the cooling fan motor can cause same problems.

  • The oven overheats and burns everything

Normally this is a simple thermostat failure which would manifest itself as this symptom.

  • The oven or cooker cuts out after it’s been on for a while

This is an overheating problem which can be caused by the fan motor or main oven thermostat or a faulty safety thermostat that will be causing the problem. It can also be caused by a failure of the cooling fan, where fitted, but usually these go noisy before failing, Safety thermostats are used to prevent the oven or cooker overheating and will shut the oven down.
