Hi. I have an indesit DFG15B1UK dishwasher that will not start. When I press the start button it trys to cycle but does not start then the cleaning, end and salt light are displayed (salt light flashing). I thought the issue might be a water supply or drainage issue so I have checked pipework wor any issues but all appears fine and the problem still persists. Any suggestions or help with this fault please Thanks carl

I will try and help with this problem about your Indesit DFG15B1UK Dishwasher,
Hi Carpingcarl, sorry to hear about the problem with your dishwasher. Let me break it down for you. The first thing to know is the water filling to the correct level. If you hear water coming into the machine for a couple of seconds and it stops then it might not be getting to the correct water level but if it fills and covers the inside of the dishwasher with approximately one to 2 cm of water then you know it has got to the correct level. At this point the dishwasher should start distributing the water around through the wash paddles if it is not doing this then you may have a problem with the main distribution motor.
Based on the symptoms your described, there may also be other faults but until we have a detailed description of the fault it is hard to analyse. Here are separate issues that can cause problems:
1. Blockage in the Water Inlet Hose Filter: This is a very common and often overlooked cause. Where the water inlet hose connects to the dishwasher (and sometimes at the tap end), there is a small mesh to catch sludge. If this is clogged, water flow will be too slow, triggering the error.
2. Anti-Flood Switch has been Activated: Most dishwashers have a safety float switch in a tray at the very bottom of the machine. If there has been a small leak, water will collect in this tray, lift the float, and trigger a switch that shuts off the water inlet and stops the machine from starting.
3. Faulty Water Inlet Valve (Solenoid): This valve opens to let water into the dishwasher. If it’s clogged with grit or became faulty, it may cause a problem.
4. Issue with the Pressure Switch: The pressure switch is what tells the control board that the correct water level has been reached. It works by sensing the air pressure in a thin tube connected to the sump at the bottom of the dishwasher. If this tube is blocked with gunk, or the switch itself is faulty, it will never signal that the machine is full.

Here you can also find a video that covers most of the error codes that might occur. It’s about a built-in appliance, but the principles are the same: https://youtu.be/TR6QIxf2ams?si=1DwgdcmuLRo3zO3p
Without having the machine in front of me and more detailed information, it’s almost impossible to diagnose this through emails and writing. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. I hope these will help you solve the problem.
