Dear Paul,I found a great video and an old post regarding the error E53 (motor triac sense fault) on my Zanussi ZWG3162 washing machine.I really like this machine and really would like to fix it. From the post, you said this could be easily done by “small smd coresistors between relays and around them have bad contact….reparing time 90min cost o.5l of good beer”. Could you be more explicit in which component should be replaced ?Thanks a lot for your support !Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Sorry to hear about the problem with your Zanussi washing machine showing the E53 error code. This usually means there’s an issue with the motor or the supply to the motor from the circuit board. Often, the link switch on the circuit board fails, which might also affect a nearby diode or resistor. Without having the circuit in front of me, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly which components need changing.
I’m currently travelling and away at the IFA trade show in Berlin where Zanussi is showcasing new products. Zanussi is great at providing technical information to the trade, and I’ve managed to get you the service manual (over 110 pages) and wiring diagrams for your machine. These should help you diagnose the problem. I’ve also got the main board configuration diagram, which might be useful.
What you need to do is identify which components need replacing. Sometimes they are visible, but often they need to be desoldered from the board and checked. The link switch usually has a hairline fracture along its central part, but it’s hard to spot without good magnifying equipment. It’s not an expensive component, so it might be worth trying to replace it. If you fail, don’t worry too much.
If you can get the genuine part number for this circuit board, it was used in many different washing machines. You might find a second-hand machine with a different fault and use its circuit board for yours.
