Bosch WAS28440AU/27 Error Code E18.

by / Thursday, 24 September 2015 / Published in

Hi Paul, I have a Bosch WAS28440AU/27. It seems as though it has a faulty drain pump. I have checked the hoses and the filter plug, yet the machine keeps coming up with E.18 error. Could this be the pump? Thanks in advance.

Hi Jay!

In fact E18 error code on a Bosch washing machine indicates a draining time out. This could happen for a couple of reasons:

1) blockage inside the filter
2) blockage inside the draining hose
3) problem with the pump

You need to :

  • Check drain pump filter
  • Check drain pump for blockage or restriction
  • Check outlet hose for blockage or obstruction
  • Check drain pump operation
  • Check drain pump wiring

If there was no blockage in the hose, or you removed it, but you still receiving the E18 error code and the machine is not draining, the problem could be the pump. Take the filter out, put the machine on spin, and with the filter out, check to see if the pump impeller is rotating.

If the washing program is over and the impeller did not turn, it's possible that the pump is faulty.

If your machine is not under warranty, and you would like to replace the pump, just click on this link of the video explaining the procedure on How to replace a Bosch Washing Machine Pump

Bosch exxcel8 washing machine will not drain!
Have checked all hoses and pump…all fine..
Having taken the filter out and cleaned it, I noticed that the hole that takes the water from the tub to the filter feels blocked….stuck my finger up it and felt resistance…could this be it….nothing on all fault sites.

Hi, I was just reading through the info here and the comments – I’ve just got one thing to add: I’ve had the same problem previously, and it was a case of emptying the pump filter. And when it happened again this time, I checked the same thing, as per above. Only this time, there was a new cause: My outside drain that the washing machine pipe was feeding into was blocked, preventing the machine from draining. So, if you’ve checked all of the above first (which is wise), then do also check your drain. The problem could be non-machine related…

I can not remove the filter I turn it counter clockwise and it jams at a quarter turn, I’m worried I will bust it if I apply pressure

Had error 18 on my Bosch washing machine so checked the filter and did a rinse/spin. All fine. Put on another washing load same error so again checked filter and again rinse/spin. All fine but this has happened 3 times now. Any ideas why a rinse/spin is ok but a normal wash triggers E18. Thank you

I received an e18 error code on my Bosch washer. I drained the machine and took about $2 in change out of the filter. The code still comes up. Do you think the pump is damaged?
