This video will show you how fault find on a Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, and Whirlpool cooker hood extractor motor and lighting circuit.
these are just some of the brands owned by the Whirlpool group and this video will help you identify any problem that you may have it is a long video but it goes into depth on the whole electrical circuit and how to diagnose problems and how to find any faults that you may have.

If you are having a problem with the lights then you need to inspect the bulbs first this means you need to remove the fragile light glass covers, this will then give you access to the halogen bulbs. You should never touch a halogen bulb with your fingers always use some tissue to hold the bulb when fitting a new one these bulbs are G4 Osram 12 volt AC 20 watt maximum.

Test and replace cooker hood bulbs

  1. Remove the light cover by unclipping the glass retainer plate
  2. Remover faulty bulb
  3. Replace with a new one

  2. The model number id plate will be on the frame
  3. Make sure you use full mode number

 

How to test the bulb 

     1. remove the metal filter 

     2. remove the retaining glass ring with a small screwdriver paying attention to glass its very fragile  

     3. remove the bulb without using your hands with some protection like tisue 

     4. test the lamp with the multimeter 

     5. if the lamp is good test the voltage at this point  

     6. if no voltage at the lamp connection, test the transformer

     7. test voltage in the plugs

 

How to test a Cooker Hood extractor motor capacitor and fan

Whenever ordering parts for your cooker hood you will need to identify the full model number of the identification plate inside the cooker before ordering parts.
If the bulbs are in good condition then you may have a problem with the transformer at this point you will really need to take the cooker hood off the wall, this will mean disconnecting the extractor.
When you have got the extractor off the wall you will then be able to strip it down to get access to the light fittings the printed circuit board and the transformer you will need to do some voltage tests to identify if the transformer is sending power to the light bulb holders. On this specific cooker hood, you should have 220 to 240 volts going into the transformer and somewhere around 30 volts coming out of the transformer remember this is AC and you will need a voltage meter that is able to identify a low voltage AC current.
The next thing you need to test is the printed circuit board these printed circuit boards sometimes are highly complicated but they are controlled with relays that are replaceable on the board and if you are able to identify which relay is faulty then it is possible to replace them. If it is any other components on the circuit board this becomes a little bit more difficult and you will need a lot more skillset in electronics. This printed circuit board uses micro components.
If you are having a problem with the motor then there are a couple of things to look out for if you are getting a humming noise from the motor then there is a good chance that the capacitor has gone faulty.
If you are getting any other types of noise as the motor is spinning you may have an imbalanced fan due to fat buildup all the fan blade itself may be damaged all the motor itself may have worn the bearings to a point where it needs to be replaced.

  Checking the pcb,

  1. Remove the metal filter

    2. Remove the panels paying attention to the plastic screws and metal screws, they are different!

    2. Test the plugs using continuity on the multimeter
