How to enter test mode on Whirlpool AWO/D & AWD Series Repair Faults & Test Errors
Whirlpool Washing Machine Error Fault Codes – FOO, FH, FA, FP, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, F14, F15, F16, F18, F20, F21, F22, FDL, FDU
This video will show you how to enter your Whirlpool Washing Machine into test mode and diagnose the fault codes on AWO/D & AWD Series and general Whirlpool washing machines that may not relate to models sold outside Europe, especially models sold in the USA.
We are working on a Whirlpool, but this video is also good for Bauknecht, Fisher & Paykel, Ignis, Ikea, Laden, Maytag, Neutral & Philips models of washing machine.
How to Enter Test Mode Sequence
To enter the diagnostic/test mode sequence, you need to turn the dial to the DRAIN position, which is at eleven o´clock; then you must press the RESET button four times, within five seconds to enter the test mode sequence. (See video on this)
NOTE: this doesn´t always go in first time, so as soon as you turn the dial from the OFF position to the DRAIN position, you have 5 seconds to press the RESET button 4 times.
Once the machine as entered the test mode sequence you will see a series of flashing lights:
1 - The machine starts by checking if the door lock is working correctly;
2 - Then goes to a fill sequence where it will test each water valve individually – it will start filling the right hand compartment in the soap drawer, then switches over to the other water valve on the left hand compartment, after this, both water valves will be activated (fills all three compartments, including the fabric conditioner in the middle);
3 - Next it will test right hand rotation of the motor (clockwise), and left hand rotation of the motor (anticlockwise), while it´s also testing the NTC sensor and the heater element;
4 - The machine goes into empty cycle;
5 -Full test on the motor at maximum RPM
To Exit Test Mode
The machine will automatically exit the diagnostic/test mode sequence
After the test sequence if you find that you do need a part for your washing machine, you will need the full model number of the ID Plate, which you can normally find on the inside of the door frame or in the rear of the machine.
Sometimes you will need the 12 digit number, which is usually prefixed with 12NC in front of it, on some parts you will need both of these numbers, it might not be listed on the website because it is serial number dependent. (see picture on the left)

I was going to temporarily bypass a faulty door interlock on a Whirlpool WWDC 6400/1 washing machine so cut through the three red wires without marking them, I’m now not sure how to reconnect once I get a replacement switch, so need a wiring diagram to trace the wiring, where ca I get this please?
The model is AWO/D 42880 what is the fault when the Service red light is blinking. what is the remedy.
I have an AWO 3560. It starts but the door locked light starts flashing after 20 seconds or so, no water is entering machine. I watched the video but I cannot get it to go into test mode. Putting the dial to drain (5 o clock position on my machine) and pressing reset 4 times does nothing. Is there a different sequence for this machine?
Test mode is fine but how do you read the lights to get the error code?
I have a whirlpool awo/d 4505 I have run the repair diagnosis test and the service light and prewash and the wash buttons light up? Any ideas what’s wrong? We have checked the pipes and the filter
Hi !
I have a whirlpool AWo/D 43115. The power is on . The door shows locked light on and start blinking. but it doesnot start. Please suggest solution
Hi Paul,
I have Whirlpool washing machine model AWO\D 43115 that is refusing to do spin cycle on all the programs but the cotton\antibacterial one. I did the diagnostic, but the test finishes without an error. Do you have any idea what it might be the problem?
Thank you in advance,
Zorica
Hello, thanks for the video.
I have the model whirlpool AWO/D 6042.
In one particular program (synthetics at 40 degrees) it stops in the Rinse section and a french key with red light pops up, the tank is half-full with water.
Then I have to put it to the Drain program, to get the water out of the tank, and then to the Rinse and Spin program to clear the clothes and the rinse works just fine this time.
There isn’t a LED screen to show me the error code. How can I recognize the error code?
In other programs the problem doesn’t occur. Strange.
Hi I have a whirlpool 6th sense that is showing fault f27. If I turn off and on again it shows fault f06. Any s suggestions if it’s worth fixing or best to get a new machine
Thanks
Sorry for the late reply
Have you tried checking the motor brushes
Appliances Engineer
My name Bijimachine is AWO/D 43425
Issue- it starts taking in water during the start and then spin for half cycle. Then stops then after sometime agin spin for half cycle then stops but my observation is it is completing the cycle without proper motor spinning, it take water in intervals and pump out water correctly, during the rinising the motor spin properly.
sorry for the late reply
You may have a fault with the printed circuit board, but it is still worth checking the carbon brushes in the motor also check the pump for any blockages
Appliances Engineer
Thank you very much for all the help, I managed to get a new door switch fitted and worhing.
Thank you all.
Hello!
I have a Whirlpool AWO/C72200. I have an F02 error code. I changed the water pump M00341 but the error code is still here and the washing machine don’t start. All time start the water pump. Can you help me?
You may have a error code stored within the main computer, you need to find how to clear this code I do not have any information on this model. or try unplugging the machine for 24 hours sometimes this will clear an error code,
Appliances Engineer
Hello. I Have an AWO 5161 but cannot get it in test or diagnostic mode. It is obvious how you do it in a AWD but AWO has different dial buttons and different drain positions
Hi
My AWO/D 6100 has no power / lights when turning the knob – How Can I fix this? I need to do washing today
Thanks!
I have a whirlpool sports wfe 1210 cs. Error comes up fod or fp. I put it on a cycle and it just stops with code Could you please help me.
Hi everyone. Your website was very helpful. I didn’t know about the test mode. Its helped me solve my problem.
My AWO machine wouldn’t spin properly and turned out to be a broken wire on the motor.
The test mode allowed me to test things without using the washing machine presets.
Good work 🙂
Hello !
I have a whirlpool ao/d 1010ex. It’s stopped during the program. You know there aren’t any error codes or any error light. Its like I unpluged it. What do you think. Do you have a button combination to reset is or something?
Im waiting your answer.
Best,
Gabor
Hi my machine has a f22 fault could anyone advise me on what I need to do to fix this. Thank you
my problem is F6 carbon brushes Whirlpool Washing I do not know in Greece athens I can buy this Grilling
Buna ziua.
