Whirlpool Washing Machine Error Fault Codes – FOO, FH, FA, FP, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, F14, F15, F16, F18, F20, F21, F22, FDL, FDU

This video will show you how to enter your Whirlpool Washing Machine into test mode and diagnose the fault codes on AWO/D & AWD Series and general Whirlpool washing machines that may not relate to models sold outside Europe, especially models sold in the USA.

We are working on a Whirlpool, but this video is also good for Bauknecht, Fisher & Paykel, Ignis, Ikea, Laden, Maytag, Neutral & Philips models of washing machine.

How to Enter Test Mode Sequence

To enter the diagnostic/test mode sequence, you need to turn the dial to the DRAIN position, which is at eleven o´clock; then you must press the RESET button four times, within five seconds to enter the test mode sequence. (See video on this)
NOTE: this doesn´t always go in first time, so as soon as you turn the dial from the OFF position to the DRAIN position, you have 5 seconds to press the RESET button 4 times.

Once the machine as entered the test mode sequence you will see a series of flashing lights:
1 - The machine starts by checking if the door lock is working correctly;

2 - Then goes to a fill sequence where it will test each water valve individually – it will start filling the right hand compartment in the soap drawer, then switches over to the other water valve on the left hand compartment, after this, both water valves will be activated (fills all three compartments, including the fabric conditioner in the middle);

3 - Next it will test right hand rotation of the motor (clockwise), and left hand rotation of the motor (anticlockwise), while it´s also testing the NTC sensor and the heater element;

4 - The machine goes into empty cycle;

5 -Full test on the motor at maximum RPM

 To Exit Test Mode

 The machine will automatically exit the diagnostic/test mode sequence

After the test sequence if you find that you do need a part for your washing machine, you will need the full model number of the ID Plate, which you can normally find on the inside of the door frame or in the rear of the machine.

Sometimes you will need the 12 digit number, which is usually prefixed with 12NC in front of it, on some parts you will need both of these numbers, it might not be listed on the website because it is serial number dependent. (see picture on the left)

    Hi

    I have an AWO 3761. If I try to switch it on it trips the mains fuse! I have had a good look round after removing the top plate to see anything burnt out, but all looks clean! I don’t have a circuit diagram or a service manual to trouble shoot the problem. I have tried to see if there is any obvious short on Live-Neutral, as power cable enters the machine via a mains filter(?) – the DC resistance reads 920 ohms, but I don’t know if this is normal; I can trace it back all the way to what I suppose is the controller. Any suggestions what I should look for to isolate the fault?

    My whirlpool (AWO/D 6129 – 8592 987 18000) stopped midway through a wash cycle. It had no lights on at all. I emptied it of washing and drained the water. I checked the filter – OK. I checked the pump was free to rotate – OK. I checked the water entry filter – OK. I checked the wash drawer – OK. I cannot perform a test mode sequence because I cannot get any lights on the control console.
    Have you any idea what has failed?

      Hi everybody,
      This is a general reply on the fault : ” machine dead, no leds blinking on the machine”
      I just repaired a Whirlpool AWO4461 which was completely dead , and I first checked if power reached the main control board which is situated behind the front operating panel ; this was ok , so I cut off the power and removed the main control board ( I made lose all connectors first) opened the cover and I quickly saw that there were some electronic components burned (R020 =27ohms, and L003= 0.47mH) and also the IC = LNK304PN.
      So I replaced these components as well as two capacitors 4.7uF/400 v and when I gave power to the module, the leds started blinking (I had turned the program knob (cental on the board) for one step so the board got power) and everything was back ok !
      So that’s the solution : repair the main board , on the internet there is a repairkit available containing thes components.
      success !

    I have a Whirlpool AWO/D 7141which I use once a week. I think I overloaded it by putting in a sleeping bag with my wash and the service light came on. I have since emptied the machine and disconnected from the mains and whilst empty been able to run the machine on a rinse programme, without a problem. I have just tried to do a wash but unfortunately it is coming up with F23 which is not listed in your faults; can you help me please
    Regards John

    Dear Sir,
    Whirlpool AWO/D7452, Test mode sequence, Water fill right compartment, not the left one, no water in the drum, all the test mode cycle goes OK,
    Is it only the water valve???
    or could it be something else.
    I think it is a 2 coil water valve, what is the part number?
    Can I buy it from France and have a quick delivery?
    Thanks for your help
