If the door on your dishwasher isn't closed properly, or if your dishwasher won't close or lock, it's almost certainly a problem with either the mechanical door lock mechanism or the metal catch on the dishwasher itself.

If your Hotpoint dishwasher will not start, or is stopping in the middle of a wash cycle, this can be a sign that the latch is failing and the dishwasher does not recognize that the door is closed.

Replacing the catch of your dishwasher is very straightforward. The first job is to open the dishwasher door and remove the screws from the door backing plate.

Once this is done the top panel of the door should become free and allow you access to the door catch itself.

The catch has only one screw holding it to the panel.

Uncouple the connector and remove the faulty switch.

Obviously the fitting of the new one is the reverse of the removal of the old switch.
