Beko washing machine not spinning or turning This video will show you how to replace the carbons in the motor

If your Beko washing machine is not spinning or it is filling with water but the drum is not turning then it is a good chance that your Beko washing machine motor carbon brushes have worn out.
This video will show you how to replace Beko washing machine motor carbon brushes,  This guide is also good for the following makes of washing machine: Alpari, Ardem, Altus, Aya, Bravo,  Bluesky, Continental Edison, Carad, Far, Funix, Linetech, Listo, Proline, Saba, Selecline, Unic Line, Wellin & Westwood.

This video can be used on all these Beko Washing Machine models:
BEKO WM5100S - Ser.No.7148881100; Ser.No.7148881200, BEKO WM5100W, BEKO WM5120S, BEKO WM5120W, BEKO WM5121S, BEKO WM5121W, BEKO WM5140S, BEKO WM5140W, BEKO WM6103W, BEKO WM6120S, BEKO WM6123S, BEKO WM6123W, BEKO WM6133S, BEKO WM6133W, BEKO WM6143S, BEKO WM6143W, BEKO WM6167S, BEKO WM6167W, BEKO WM6355W, BEKO WMC61W, BEKO WMC62W, BEKO WMC64W

Why do carbon brushes fail?

The motor carbon brushes transfer the electricity from outside the motor to the spinning winding in the center of the motor. They undergo quite a lot of friction, and after a while wear out.
Carbon is used as it is a reasonable conductor, and is soft enough to wear down instead of wearing down the "commutator"(the ring the brushes press against).
If carbon brushes become too short, contact across the commutator is lost, and the motor won't be able to spin. Brushes often fail on the Spin Cycle first. They are designed to be replaceable in washing machine motors because of this.

Common symptoms for Beko washing machine worn carbon brushes:

  • Washing machine drum´s not turning;
  • Washing machine not turning during the wash cycle;
  • Washing machine not spinning;
  • Washing machine is filling with water but the drum is not turning.

To take out a motor on a Beko washing machine might sound scary, but it’s a surprisingly easy to replace and then fit the carbon brushes:

- First thing we need to do is disconnect the appliance from the power supply, and remove the screws in the back of the machine that hold the back panel.
- Then you need to remove the washing machine belt that is attached to the motor and drum pulley.
- You will now need to remove the bolts that attach the motor to the washing machine drum.
- Release the motor of the drum brackets or lugs, be careful it’s heavy.
- Next you need to remove the old carbon brushes and fit new ones according to the video instructions.

    Thanks,
it is a very useful video.
I did like this and I was able to replace the carbon alone.

I couldn’t beleive how simple and quick the repair was, since all fuses in the house we’re gone I thought some electronics got damaged. But since I didn’t want to buy spare parts right away I chose to check this first as it was a fairly simple procedure, and guess what… it worked! 1 of the carbon brushes got stuck, so cleaned it so it could move freely again. Thanks for the video!

Hi Paul, sadly on busy washing day today our Beko WME7267S washing machine decided to pack up. The drum turns but in doesn’t spin on the final cycle. The machine seems to try and then gives up. I’ve checked belt and that appears OK. I cleared a 1.5 inch screw from filter and still no joy. Do you think it’s the carbon brushes or something more terminal. Before I order spares I thought it best to ask. Can you tomorrow if its easier. I’m on xxxxxxxxxx if you need to ask another question or email me above. I’m around tomorrow so hope to catch you. Kids washing is already starting to pile up so keen to find a fix. Thanks Steve

    Hello.

My washing machine isnt spinning. I’ve checked the belt and brushes and they seem okay. I’ve also checked the fitler and its clear.

The brushes are a bit worn but look more like the good one in your video than the worn down one. Do you think it needs a new motor?

Hi, Could you advise please. My Beco won’t spin at all. I removed the motor as suggested but the brushes are fine as was the belt. Checked the filter no problem. It fills and empties but no spin at all. Is there a way to reset it or isn’t it software driven. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rather keep it going than bin it. Oh! it suddenly happened no warning it has worked without issue to date no odd noises etc.

Hi Paul, I followed your video it is very useful, thank you, however the motor fixings on the drum in mine is slightly different than yours and i cant figure out how to open it! I unscrewed all four screws but plastic holders where the screws goes in and expands are not giving way and not allowing me to remove the motor from the drum. how do solve this problem?

    Hi,

Thanks for your video. i have a Fisher and Paykel WH60F60W3 (6kg front loader), which I understand is made by Beko, circa 2011. I’m based in Christchurch, NZ.

The washer has been failing to spin, intermittently. Over the last few weeks, sometimes it runs fine. Other times it fails to run and leaves me with a load of sodden half-washed clothes. It seems to be worse in humid weather, such as the last few days.

When it had similar issues 6mths ago, I called F&P service. The guy tipped up the washing machine and lightly sanded the commutator. This seemed to solve the problem, for a while at least.

I’ve just done similarly, and also used some spray lubricant (Selleys RP-7). After letting the excess dry (15mins or so), I ran a load. The motor spun, however it was making a ‘crackling’ sound, and also had a bit of an ‘electronic’ smell (ozone??). I’m assuming this could be some sparking on the commutator. The ‘quick wash’ (30min) cycle ran to completion, though at the beginning it seemed to get confused, and made multiple attempts at emptying the washer, which it eventually did, but returned to showing ‘0:30’ on the display, rather than ‘end’ as it normally should. I did all this before watching your video. The symptoms described prompted me to go online to search out possible solutions.

Bearing in mind recent bad press about Samsung washers causing house fires (in Australia at least), I’m a bit concerned that my motor may be sparking and be a hazard.

Do you have any advice? Should I remove the motor and replace the brushes per your video? Or is there likely to be other issues? Or should I just keep using it, as it seems to work for now, and see if it keeps on working longer term?

Thanks for any tips you can provide,

    Graeme

Update on my previous question – motivated by your video I decided to check the brushes, and I found I was able to access the brushes without removing the motor, by tipping the washer 45 degrees and accessing from underneath. (For the home handyman without a test bench nor extension arm on my socket wrench, I daresay this is much easier than removing the whole motor – if a little tedious).

I found that one brush appeared in very good condition – long and moved freely. The other was a little stiff, and much shorter, though I would have thought would still have some life in it. I’ve freed it up (moved it back and forth many times and applied some spray lubricant). Hopefully this will come good for a while.

I tried to find the replacement carbon brushes on your website. I couldn’t find any specific reference to F&P. Item H2RHLS-C00201861 looks the most similar (some detail difference around the screw holes). Can you advise the correct replacement part? Do you ship to NZ?

      Thanks.

I have Beko WM6366W Washing Machine. Which was in need of new brushes. I have had the brushes replaced with new ones, but my machine does not respond. The green light is on but nothing comes to life. What do I need to do?

    Many thanks.

    Hi Paul

My washing machine stopped spinning at the weekend so we got replacement brushes as the belt was fine. The brushes were replaced last night and we put it on a quick wash and turned the spin speed down. It made a really bad ratchety sound (which I believe is normal for brushes bedding themselves in) which did seem to improve as the cycle completed. I then put the washing machine on a spin cycle to see if the noise would improve further and I heard a sort of bang and the lights went out on the front of the machine so after checking the plug seen the fuse had blown changed the fuse and switch the machine on and the fuse went again when the machine tried to finish the spin cycle. Changed the fuse again and the spin cycle finished this time. We are going to look at it again tonight but was wonder what you thought was causing the fuse to go?

    Hello Paul,

I have come across your company when my washing machine failed to fill with water…I then watched the tutorial and I was able to identify the problem with the motor carbon brushes.

To my surprise, when me and my wive bought the washing machine we took an after care plan 🙁
I just wanted to say thanks and that I will recommend your company to family and friends.

Hi, I’ve replaced my carbon on Beko machine as not spinning, this is now spinning but I am left with a strange noise when the drum spins, any ideas

    • Ferdinando Brito says : Reply

      Hi Sarah,

The noise you hear may just be from the fact that the brushes are new and need to “settle” in place. As you had the opportunity to see the angle cut on the carbon brush is a line, a flat plane if you will, the shaft where the touch is round so it needs to wear out a while before assuming the curvature of the shaft. Let us now if in a few weeks time the noise still persists.

      Regards,
      Ferdinando

I have a Beko WM6167 W. It won’t spin. It tries to spin but makes a crackling noise, turns a few times and then gives up. We had been away for a week and it has been quite cold a damp. Could this be connected? Could it be that I need to replace the brushes?

    Regards,

    Chris

I have a WMB 81241 LW I watched your tutorial on the diagnostic mode and it comes up with Error code E10 the machine will not turn ( either direction ) or spin. I am guessing the carbon brushes are the problem but would like conformation and if this is the fault the correct item to purchase. Kind regards. M.kelly.
