How to replace Dishwasher pump Bosch, Siemens etc

by / Saturday, 10 January 2015 / Published in Dishwasher, Pumps

The drain pump on a dishwasher will always be located at the bottom of the machine, some can be accessed from the front as in this video, others you can removed from under the base of the dishwasher, But the first thing you need to do is drain the water from the inside using a bowl, I find that the top of a spray tin very useful to remove water from below the filter in the water well.

This video will help you remove the old Dishwasher pump and replace with a new one or to clean it

You will need to access the pump from the front of the machine on this model as the base does not come off, this video will show you how to replace the pump on all these make but can differ from model to model. Bosch, Siemens, Airlux, ATAG, Balay, Constructa, Gorenje, Imperial, Koenic, Kuppersbusch, Neff, Pelgrim, Pitsos, Thermador, Tecnik, Viva, V-Zug,

Error Codes for Bosch SMS/SH Series and Exxcel/Logixx Dishwashers:

Possible fault codes are E25, E24, these are drain error codes
Fault Code E20
Symptom: Electrical short or break.
Cause: Short or break causing incorrect resistance in winding of the circulation pump or the motor.
Fault Code E21
Symptom: Circulating pump blocked.
Cause: A blockage between the motor or the pump resulting in insufficient water flow.
Fault Code E23
Cause: As error code E20, but this time the electrical problem is with the drain pump.
Action: Replace drain pump if necessary.
Fault Code E24
Symptom: Dishwasher not draining properly.
Cause: Drain filters blocked.
Action: Clean the filters.
Go to: Why is My Bosch Dishwasher Not Draining?
Fault Code E25
Symptom: Dishwasher not draining properly.
Cause: Possibly blocked filters, as above. Otherwise this fault code could indicate a blocked drain pump.
Fault Code E26
Cause: Water switch/regulator problem.
Action: Check water switch and replace if required.
Fault Code E28
Cause: Fault detected with turbidity sensor.
Symptom: Dishes not getting clean. Dirty water in the tub.
To remove the Dishwasher pump see video and follow these steps

  • 1st you will need to drain down the dishwasher.
  • 2nd You will need to remove the lid and the side panels.
  • 3rd Remove the kick strip.
  • 4th Behind the kick strip you will find an access plate this can be removed by undoing the screws and prizing the plate up slightly on either side.
  • 5th Remove any of the wiring that might get in the way of you undoing the dishwasher pump.
  • 6th This pump is held in place with a bayonet fixing. We just need to depress this clip and twist the pump clockwise on this model (on other models the pump needs to be rotated anti clockwise to release it)
  • 7th When the pump comes out you can remove the wiring from it.
Now you can inspect the pump to see if there are fibers wrapped around it. You can now test the pump with a multi-meter remember the pump in this dishwasher is 54V and is not 240v so don’t try and live test it.

We had had the worse type of problem with our Bosch Dishwasher, sometimes it works, sometimes not. The pump was replaced 11 months ago when a E24 error popped up intermittently. It continued to show after the new pump. We have cleaned filters, examined water supply, pretty much everything we could find. And by the way, your site is the very best we’ve seen by way of explanation. We now get an E25 code which suggests the pump (again!) but I’m not convinced. The salt reservoir is still full requiring no replenishment for months! This is surely wrong, we are in a very hard water area. Have you any idea what might be causing this and how we should proceed?

I have tried to see if I can clean the pump to get rid of error 24, but it has actually triggered it to change to error 25 now. It did the whole cycle when I tested it, but on the last minute of it comes up with an error. I am trying to put the panel back on the dishwasher, but I have these two plastic parts, which fell out when taking the panel off and I don’t know which position they should be in when panels goes back on. Could you please send a photo where they go? It’s siemens 45m583au dishwasher

I have a bosch classixx that i moved out to repair the wooden floor. After reinstalling it worked then started leaking from the bottom and then tripped the circuit breaker. We don’t think there was any error codes showing and now we can turn it back on as it trips the circuit.

I think something caused it to overfill and the water has leaked and is causing a short.

Could you advise what are the main sequence of stapes i should take to to identify the cause of the overfill and then drying out the circuits.

    Hi!

Greetings from a rather damp Sydney!

    I have a Bosch SMS50E32AU dishwasher.

We keep having E15 codes. I have traced it to the seal between the heater pump and the sump. The pump is known as a 0450 on the parts diagram I got from Bosch. The pump is a 3 phase 100V/213 Hz item 9000.946.120 156/15111B 4022 1BS3610-6AA 730.60010.06.

It appears that the only way to get a new seal is by buying a new pump. Is there any way around that?

    Hi
I’m getting an E15 fault on my Siemens dishwasher. I know this is water in the base. Where could that be coming from?

    Hi Paul,

Your YouTube guides are amazing but I have a ramdom question. Is it feasable to convert a free standing dishwahser to an integrated one for a new kitchen ? To me it seems like I’d be able to remove a few trim pieces and bolt a door on but I am unsure on loom and controller compatability.
