How to replace a belt on a Vented tumble dryer Zanussi, Electrolux & Aeg

The first thing you will notice if your tumble dryer belt has snapped, is the dryer is making a motor noise but the drum is not turning or the dryer is not drying. If the drum in your dryer is no longer rotating the chances are that your drum-belt may have snapped, you end up with a warm, damp pile of clothes! take the lid of the appliance to check this. If the tumble dryer belt has snapped then follow this tumble dryer repair guide and watch the video tutorial.

Safety first! Unplug the machine from the electrical supply and make sure the machine has been idle long enough so that the heater has cooled down.

Remove the lid of the machine by undoing the 2 bolts at the back of the top panel normally 7 or 8mm.

if you'll tumble dryer is not turning but you can hear the motor running then there is a good chance that the belt is broken, or if you can have a humming noise but the drum is not turning then you need to see the video on how to replace capacitors on the main motor,

Over time the belt in your tumble dryer can become worn normally due to overloading, they can become stretched and suffer from general wear and tear. In more extreme instances they can actually snap altogether.
If your drive belt has broken the machine may appear to be running and get warm, but the cloths will be stuck damp in the bottom of the drum
However, the good news is that you have come to the right place to get your problem resolved! By watching this video on vented tumble dryer, we have another video on the condenser tumble dryers showing you how to change the belt on these.

What You will need to do the following.

  • Switch off Your tumble dryer and unplug it.
  • Remove the Top Panel
  • Remove the Side Panel
  • Remove the Plastic Heater Cover
  • Remove the Metal Heater Cover
Remove the Heater and support it
  • Remove the old belt
  • Release the Belt from the Shaft & Pulley and spring
  • Loosen the Back
  • To ease new belt on
  • Make sure you line the belt up correctly
  • Fit tension spring back on
  • Line belt up as in videoReassemble machine

NOTE CAREFULLY how the belt needs to pass over the pulley-wheel, then under the motor-shaft! To create the tension needed.
Re-fit the back cover bearing support etc, taking care to line up the drum to the front drum supports

We hope this tutorial helped you get your tumble dryer working again!

I am trying to replace the belt on a hoover condensing tumble drier tdwsf83bep . This is my first attempt and I have followed a YouTube video but the model was different.
I have the belt around the drum, took out the fan, hooked the belt around the motor and the pully but it’s still loose. It seems to be tight only when I undo the idling spring, is the spring only to hold everything in place when changing the belt or is it essential? I have pictures that show the spring and also how slack the belt is when the spring is attached.
