Tumble Dryer Door Wont Shut Latch or Catch Broken How To Replace

by / Monday, 07 October 2019 / Published in Tumble Dryers

One of the most common problems with tumble dryers is the door not closing. This is usually caused by a broken latch or catch. This tutorial will show you how to replace the door catch or latch and also show you how to make sure the door lock is in the open position.

If you’ve never replaced a door catch or latch on a tumble dryer before, you may be wondering where to begin? Luckily for you that’s where I come in. In this how-to guide, I will guide you through replacing the door latch or catch on a tumble dryer.

Step 1  - Switch off the power to the machine from the mains supply and unplug the machine.

Step 2 - On the door of the machine unscrew the door latch / catch and remove the broken latch / catch. Place the new latch / catch and replace the fixing screw. This is a very easy repair to do.

Step 3 - Ensure the door lock is in the open position (see below pic) if it is in the locked position you will need to get it into the open position so the mechanism will work properly. To do this take a piece of sturdy wire and make a hook on the end of it. Get the hook behind the the door lock and pull it back into the open position. (See Below Pics)

Step 4 - Ensure the tumble dryer door closes and locks into place.

Some machines may be slightly different but should be quite similar.

Before doing any work on the appliance, disconnect it from the electric supply!

Hi there, my Bosch dryer Maxx Sensitive 7 does not start.
    The door light burns.
It looks as if the door shuts correct though.
    Any thoughts?
