Removing the Panels, Replacing Old Bearings & Spindle

The top panel of this machine is held in place by two screws located under a ledge at the back. Some models may have three screws. For this model, you need to lift the lid slightly and push it backwards to remove it.

The console panel is secured by two screws. A magnetic screwdriver will be handy for this task as it helps in holding the screws. To avoid damage to the timer knob when removing it, cover it with an old tea towel or cloth, then pull it off gently using a pair of pliers.

Open the door and unscrew the screws holding the switch in place. The switch won't fall as the cables are usually held onto the front panel by a piece of wire.

The kick strip, which covers a number of screws on the lower section of the front panel, can be detached by gripping each side firmly and pulling it.

Next, remove the top screws. Although the panel won't likely move since the drum is resting on it, we recommend you to hold it when unscrewing the last screw for safety. Then, untie the wire bundling the switch cables together and carefully lift the panel out.

Next, you will need to disconnect the exhaust thermostat wires and set the panel aside. Also, extract the internal vent pipe.

After that, you should dispose of the old felt bearing. The new ones usually come with adhesive on one side, so it's essential to clean the ducting thoroughly before installation to ensure proper adhesion.

If you're not familiar with how to replace the Hotpoint TDL30 tumble dryer bearings, we recommend you watch our video thoroughly.

When you're ready to put everything back together, ensure that the ducting assembly at the bottom of the panel hooks over the lower section of the cabinet. Also, make sure that the front lip of the switch is correctly fitted into the front panel.
