How to Clean a Blocked Gas Jet On Gas Burner Hob?

In this guide, we will walk you through the process of cleaning a blocked gas jet, which could be due to water boiling over or corrosion in the pipes. If your gas cooker or hob is producing a weak flame, it’s likely due to a restriction in the gas flow. Here, we’ll show you how to properly clean the jet to restore the flame to its optimal strength.

We would recommend you watch our video since we’re showing how easily you can clean your stove hob’s blocked gas jet.

Removing the Gas Jet

  1. Remove the burner head, burner cap, and crown after ensuring they’re cool to touch. This will give you access to the gas jet.
  2. The gas jet can be located below the spark igniter. You’ll need a 7mm socket to unscrew the jet. Be careful, as it can be a bit stiff.
  3. Once unscrewed, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the jet.

Cleaning the Gas Jet

  1. You’ll likely notice some dirt in the jet and the pipe. Use a small pipe cleaner to loosen any crud inside the pipe.
  2. Be sure to also remove the dirt from the jet itself.
  3. Next, blow out the dirt from the pipe. With the electricity turned off to avoid sparking, open the gas valve to force the dirt out.

Replacing the Gas Jet

  1. Once the jet is clean, apply a small amount of gas sealant around it before reinserting it into the pipe.
  2. Be careful to align the jet properly to avoid cross-threading. The jet doesn’t need to be overly tight, just a little bit of a nip should be sufficient.
  3. After replacing the jet, clean the surface of the stove. A product like Oven Mate works well on this flat surface and ceramics, removing the majority of the grease without scratching the surface.
  4. Replace the cap and guard, and you should now have a strong, clean flame.

Furthermore, if your flame is burning yellow, this may indicate that the jet has become too large, and too much oxygen is coming through, changing the flame color. Regular cleaning and maintenance of your gas jet can ensure optimal performance and longevity.

By following these steps, you can successfully clean you blocked stove top gas jet. Remember, you can watch our video to avoid any potential problems.
