How to Remove an Integrated Oven: A Step-By-Step Guide

In this guide, we will explain you how to remove an  integrated oven. This process can be done alone for single ovens, but you might need an extra pair of hands for the heavier double ovens.

Before we start, please ensure that you've disconnected the power supply to the oven. This can be done either via a switch on the wall or by turning off the household electrics. Disconnecting the power ensures that you can safely remove the oven.

We would recommend you watch our video since we're showing how easily you can remove your integrated oven.

Steps to Remove the Integrated Oven

  1. Begin by disconnecting the oven from the power supply. Depending on your setup, you may be able to do this by turning off a switch in another cupboard. If your switch doesn't disconnect the neutral, it's safer to turn off the power at the fuse board and the Residual Current Device (RCD). This way, you disconnect both the live and neutral circuits.
  2. Once the power is disconnected, you can remove the oven from the housing unit safely.
  3. To do this, open the oven door and locate the screws that fasten the oven to the housing. These are generally located on either side of the oven. For single ovens, there are often two screws on each side. For double ovens, there may be one screw in the grill on each side and one in the oven, or six screws on both sides. These screws are embedded in the woodwork of the housing unit.
  4. Once the screws are removed and the oven is loose, close the oven door.
  5. Now, place a box or a similar object of the same height as the oven in front of it. This is a precautionary measure in case the cable connecting the oven to the power supply is too short.
  6. You can now slide the oven out onto the box.
  7. If your oven is connected to a connection point built into the wall, you'll need to access the connection block at the back of the oven. This is usually covered by a straightforward cover.
  8. Before touching the electrics, double-check with a multimeter to ensure no current is present.
  9. Once confirmed, you can disconnect the wiring. You'll find a live, a neutral, and an earth wire. Note that double ovens may have additional connection points.

By following these steps, you can successfully remove your oven, whether you need to replace it or change a component within it. Remember, you can watch our video to avoid any potential problems.

Reconnecting the Built-In Oven

Once you've made the necessary repairs or changes, it's time to reconnect your oven.

  1. Start by bringing up your power supply. Attach the connection on the left-hand side of the screw and tighten them up. Most cookers will have the connections clearly marked Live (L), Neutral (N) and Earth (E).
  2. Make sure all the wires are fitted correctly and then attach the connection clamp.
  3. Slide the oven back into the housing unit. Ensure the cable is not trapped underneath the oven. You might need someone to pull the cable through from the other side as you slide the oven back in.
  4. Once the oven is back in place, match up the screw holes and refasten the oven to the housing unit.
  5. Reconnect the oven to the main power supply.

Remember, once you've reconnected the electricity, always set the timer to manual and check that the time is set correctly. If your oven is on automatic, it may not work. Refer to your oven's manual for correct settings.
