Replacing a Hotpoint Washing Machine Heating Element

In this comprehensive guide, we will explain how to replace the heating element in your washing machine. This tutorial is applicable to Ariston, Creda, Hotpoint, and Indesit models, and it can also be useful for other brands. For safety purposes, ensure the appliance is disconnected from the power supply before starting.

For the purpose of this guide, we've removed the tub from the washing machine to give you a clear view of the process in our video, so we recommend you watch it thoroughly.

Additionally, you can visit our web store to buy genuine spare parts: https://shop.how-to-repair.com/collections/washing-machine-parts

Removing the Old Heating Element from Hotpoint Washing Machine

You can start by loosening the nut in the center of the heating element. However, do not remove the nut entirely, as this will allow you to push the retention plate at the back of the tub to relieve pressure from the seal. With the help of a flat-bladed screwdriver, gently pry the element upwards to pull the seal through the tub. At this point, you need to be cautious not to apply too much pressure to avoid cracking the tub.

After you remove it, you can examine the retention plate and seal the old heating element. The retention plate applies pressure to the seal, creating a watertight gasket on the machine. The guard bracket on the heating element fits under a pair of lugs to hold it in place.

Installing the New Heating Element to Hotpoint Washing Machine

Now, you should prepare the new heating element for installation. You can purchase these from our website by entering your model number into the search bar. They are typically priced between £20 and £30.

To fit the new seal, we suggest you apply a small amount of liquid detergent around the seal to facilitate sliding it into place. Once you've pushed the heating element into place, use a flat-bladed screwdriver (not a sharp one) to slowly edge the seal into the hole. Start at one end and work your way up, making sure not to pinch the seal as you apply pressure.

Next, tighten the middle nut by hand. Once it's hand-tight, give it an additional quarter to half a turn.

After the machine is fully reassembled, fill the tub with water to check for leaks.

Please remember that our video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.
