Identifying the Heating Fault
You can begin by running your machine for a few minutes. After a short while, you will need to check for warm air either inside the drum or at the rear vent hose. If there's no warm air, it's a clear indication of a heating problem.
Some models have a reset button on the rear which you can try. You should feel a click when it needs resetting, then perform the warm air check again. If there's still no warm air, it's time to investigate further.
Disassembling the White Knight Tumble Dryer
Start by removing the lid of the machine. Then, examine the wiring going to the heating element. You will see three terminals: one neutral and two live feeds. We highly recommend making a wiring diagram and taking a photograph to ensure correct reassembly.
Next, remove the back panel of the machine by unscrewing all the outer screws and the three screws in the center attached to the spider (part of the drum's bearing system). Once these are removed, the back panel should come off easily.
If you're not familiar with how to replace the White Knight tumble dryer heater, we recommend you watch our video thoroughly.
Replacing the White Knight Tumble Dryer Heating Element
On the heating system, you will find the inner thermostat and the reset thermostat, which trips when it overheats. These three brackets hold the element in place, along with one screw that needs to be undone. This screw also holds a piece of wire in place that organizes some of the wiring when fully assembled.
After removing the inner back panel, you can replace the heating element. To do this, unclip the wiring according to your wiring diagram and undo the screw that holds the element in place. Once the screw is undone, the inner back panel will lift off.
When purchasing a new element, enter your model number into the search bar on our website to find the exact replacement part. If you can't find the part, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Before installing the new element, test it to ensure it functions correctly. Both sides of the element should have circuit continuity. If only one side has continuity, the element will only partially heat, making the drying process longer than normal.
Once tested, install the new element and replace the inner back panel. Make sure to align all the screws correctly with their corresponding holes. Also, refit the wire that keeps the wiring harness tidy.
Finally, test the thermostats. The inner thermostat should have circuit continuity. The thermal cutout, sometimes called the reset thermostat, should also have continuity. If either thermostat lacks continuity, it will need to be replaced.
