Changing the Door Lock on an Indesit Washing Machine

Removing the Retaining Wire of Indesit Washing Machine

The first step is to remove the retaining wire that holds the door seal to the front panel. There are three types typically used in the industry. The first type is a spring type, where a spring holds the wire together. The second is a nylon hospital-type, which locks into place. The third type is similar to an oversized jubilee clip, where a screw or bolt must be undone to loosen and remove it.

Next, you can peel back the door seal out of its groove. This will give you access to the rear of the door interlock.

Removing the Door Interlock of Indesit Washing Machine

Now, unscrew the screws holding the door interlock in place. It's a good idea to put your hand on the inside of the panel to prevent the door interlock from dropping down into the base of the machine. Some door interlocks fit flush to the panel, and others hook into the panel. Unplug the wiring from the door interlock. In some cases, the wires are held on with a plug connector, and in others, they're held on with individual spade connectors. It's a good idea to take a photograph or make a wiring diagram before removing them.

Installing the New Door Lock to Indesit Washing Machine

Now, it's time to install the new door lock. In most cases, the new part will be exactly the same as the old one. However, sometimes the new door lock may vary from the old one. Check inside the packaging for any additional information, as sometimes manufacturers have made modifications to the terminal layout or wiring alteration on the actual harness.

First, plug the wiring harness into the door lock. Most of the plugs can only fit one way. If you have terminal connections on the door lock, you will need to consult your wiring diagram or photograph to ensure you get the wires on correctly.

This door lock hooks into place. Some are flush fit, and others have a plastic piece, which will go onto the door lock through the panel.

Now, square up the door seal before trying to clip it back into its groove. A useful trick to get the wire band back on is to put a little bit of liquid detergent around the band, which will help ease it into the rubber groove. Remember to put the spring part of the wire clip or wire band into the same location as when you took it apart.
