How to Change a Hotpoint Washing Machine Pump

In this repair guide, we will explain how to replace the pump in your washing machine. This guide is applicable to most machines, although the pump's placement can vary, being fitted either at the front or the rear. Some pumps have built-in filters, while others are connected to a pre-filter.

Before starting, ensure the machine is disconnected from electricity. We also recommend you lean the machine over, protecting the panel with a cloth.

We recommend you watch our video thoroughly since we show you how to remove the Hotpoint washing machine pump in the video.

Removing & Replacing the Pump of Hotpoint Washing Machine

You can begin by removing the washing machine's back panel. Our video mainly shows you how to remove the pump, fit a new one, and clean the pre-filter.

You will find two push-fit clips holding the sump pipe, which runs from the drum to the pump, and the outlet hose. You can use pipe grips to remove these clips, and then remove the two screws located underneath that hold the pump onto the chassis.

The pipes can be disconnected by simply squeezing the clip. Be careful of your hand when removing the pipe; it can easily be cut on the sharp edges of the chassis.

This particular Hotpoint washing machine model in the video has an anti-siphon flap which prevents sink water from flowing back into the machine. The sump hose is directly connected to the drum, housing the pre-filter. This is where the pre-filter is situated in this washing machine. The water flows from the drum directly onto the pump.

You can remove the sump hose by undoing the clip that holds the hose to the drum. In this machine, the filter has collected a penny and a piece of wire. Various items can end up in these filters, falling between the drum and the door seal during a wash or spin.

To remove the pump, undo the two screws holding it in place. Be careful not to lean the machine on its side as this can cause damage to the wiring or printed circuit board. Lean the machine over at a 30-degree angle instead. Disconnect the wiring harness from the pump. This is a push-fit type that can only go in one way. Some pumps have two spade connectors and sometimes an earth wire depending on the model.

You can replace the pump motor or the entire assembly. Replacing the motor requires removing the pump from the housing. The pump in the video has a square drive, but there are various screw fittings depending on the model.

After replacing the motor, make sure it is lined up as it was before and tighten the screws to hand tight with about a quarter of a turn on top. Now you can reassemble the washing machine by replacing the sump hose and reattaching the back.

Please remember that our video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.
