Disassembling & Replacing the Hotpoint Tumble Dryer Thermostat
The fault with the appliance in our video was that it was not heating. Common causes for a tumble dryer not heating are the heating element being open circuit, the cutouts or the thermostats can trip out, and some modern tumble dryers have PCB boards which can fail. You could also have faulty wire connections.
First, you will need to remove the back panel of the machine. Then, examine the wiring going to the heating element. You will see two thermostats. We highly recommend making a wiring diagram and taking a photograph to ensure correct reassembly.
Now, you can remove the wiring off the thermostats and then check it for continuity. Remember to write down the wiring and also make a note of which thermostat came off where, as they do have different temperature ranges.
The main reason thermostats fail usually is due to lack of circulation, meaning that they overheat, or due to a restriction on airflow going through the machine.
After determining that the thermostats are open circuit (no continuity), replace them. When purchasing a new thermostat, enter your model number into the search bar on our website to find the exact replacement part. Once you've received the new thermostats, install them according to your wiring diagram.
After the machine is fully reassembled, test the thermostats for continuity. If the thermostats are working, the machine should now heat correctly.
