How to Change a Door Seal on a Hotpoint Washing Machine

In this comprehensive guide, we will explain how to replace the door seal on your washing machine. This video normally applies to a lot of the Hotpoint, Creda, Jackson, and English Electric models, making it your go-to guide for a wide range of common washing machine appliances.

For safety purposes, ensure the appliance is disconnected from the electricity before starting. All repairs should be carried out by a qualified engineer.

Removing the Hotpoint Washing Machine Front Panel

In the video, we used a washing machine model that allows for the removal of the front panel. You will begin by removing the retaining clip that holds the door seal to the chassis, and then, peel back the door seal and remove it. Press the button to release the soap drawer. When removing screws from the washing machine, you should remember to keep them in the order they were removed. The screws around the soap drawer are made of stainless steel and will not rust.

To remove the machine timer knob, you will need to jiggle the on/off button. Remove the panel, and if necessary, mark up the wiring to aid reconnection later. There are two retaining clips on the right-hand side that keep the panel in place, and four screws on the other side.

After that, you should remove the three screws on the top and bottom of the panel, followed by the two screws holding the door lock in place. If you have some DIY experience, you can fit a door boot or door gasket to a full chassis washing machine, but it can be a difficult task. If you don't have any experience about that, we suggest you watch our video.

Hotpoint Washing Machine Door Seal Replacement

After you remove the panel, you will see the internal clip that holds the door seal onto the drum. Some washing machines have sockets, while others have a sliding clip. The machine in the video had a screw clip, which adjusts to tighten it up onto the drum itself. The door seal has a hole just underneath the screw clip.

Before fitting the new door seal, you should clean and dry the surface of the drum to remove any limescale or grease. When fitting the new door seal, make sure the UV drip holes at the bottom of the seal line up with the drum so that water does not collect within the drip area of the seal.

After you've fitted the seal and tightened the band, replace the front panel, ensuring you don't trap any wires hanging from the door interlock or any other parts of the machine. Attach the band that goes around the front. Some machines have a spring, while others have a wire band and clasp located in the top left-hand corner.

Lastly, replace the front panel and connect all the wires back to their respective terminals. Make sure to check your door seals frequently and replace them as needed.

Please remember that our video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.
