How to Replace and Test Halogen G9 Oven Light Bulbs?
Are you frustrated with your oven light not working when you open the door or switch it on? Struggling to find clear instructions on how to fix it? Whether the problem lies with the bulb or the bulb holder, we'll walk you through the steps to test, replace, and troubleshoot these components, for electric ovens.
This repair guide will teach you how to replace and test halogen G9 oven light bulbs. Our video specifically demonstrates a Beko CIMYA91B cooker oven, but the following tips apply to all freestanding and built-in cookers using the G9 system.
Step 1: Diagnosing the Problem
If your oven light is not working, the issue could be with the bulb or the bulb holder. Many new bulb systems can be tricky to fit correctly, often leading to misalignment. Before you start, make sure to disconnect the oven from the power supply to avoid harming yourself.
Step 2: Locating the Bulb Holder
The bulb holder is typically located at the back or top of the oven. To find it, open your oven door and look inside. The holder may be covered by a lens cover. Carefully remove any racks or trays that might obstruct your view.
Step 3: Removing the Oven Door
To replace or test the bulb, you will need to remove the oven door for easier access. Please make sure the power is disconnected before starting. Most oven doors can be removed by pushing down on a couple of clips and lifting the door out of its hinges.
Here's how to do it:
- Ensure the power is disconnected.
- Open the oven door fully.
- Locate the small clips or latches on the hinges.
- Push these clips down to release the door.
- Lift the door slightly and pull it away from the oven.
Step 4: Removing the Lens Cover and Bulb
With the door off, now you can remove all items inside the oven. You can begin by unscrewing the lens cover, using a glove or cloth to protect your hands. Pay close attention to how the bulb is fitted; this will help you when replacing it. Now, you can test the bulb using a multimeter set to continuity. If you don't have one, you can buy a new multimeter via our affiliate link.
If the filament is intact and the bulb has continuity, it’s still good. If not, you should replace the bulb. You can visit our supplier's page to get the spare parts you need. Remember, the link below will direct you to spare parts for Beko cookers but you can still type your full model number to find the exact part of your oven model.

If you need to replace the bulb:
- Use a piece of tissue or cloth to handle the new bulb to avoid leaving oily residues from your fingers.
- Insert the new bulb into the holder, making sure it aligns correctly.
- Give the bulb a quick wipe to make sure it’s clean.
- When fitting a new bulb, use tissue to avoid leaving oily residues, which can cause hotspots and blow the bulb.
Step 5: Testing & Replacing the Bulb Holder
Testing the G9 halogen bulb holder will show you if it needs replacing:
-
- Reconnect the oven to the power supply.
- Close the cover and turn the oven on.
- Set the timer to manual and switch on the oven light.
- Use a multimeter to check for the correct voltage (240V) at the light fitting by placing the probes on the two terminals. If you see the correct voltage but the light still doesn't work, the holder may need to be replaced. (There is an affiliate link above to buy a new multimeter)
If the bulb holder needs replacement:
- Disconnect the wires from the holder.
- Press the lugs on the holder to release it and carefully drop it down.
- Inspect the holder for any damage or corrosion.
- Insert the new holder and clip into the place.
- Reconnect the wires to the new holder.
- Again, there is an affiliate link above to buy a spare parts.
Step 6: Reassembling & Checking the Oven
Once the new bulb is in place and tested, you can reassemble the oven. Please be careful that all connections are secure and the bulb holder is properly aligned. Then, you will be able to reconnect the wiring and replace the top panel and oven door.
After reassembling, plug the cooker back in and test the bulb. If it works, replace the lens cover and you’re done. If not, recheck all connections and fittings.
