LG Washing Machine Repair Guide: Fixing Motor Jerking and LE Error Code
If your LG washing machine’s drum is not rotating correctly, jerking from side to side, or displaying an LE error code, don’t worry.
In this guide, we will help you diagnose and fix the problem. This error often relates to the motor, specifically the hall sensor or its wiring. The machine might not be accurately detecting the motor’s status, or the motor could be jammed.

Safety First!
- Unplug your washing machine before starting work.
- Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.
Possible Causes
- The drum doesn’t rotate freely: A sock or other small item could be stuck between the inner and outer drum, preventing rotation. This issue can also trigger an LE error code.
- The drum is locked: The drum bearings could have collapsed, or a piece of clothing might be trapped between the inner and outer drum, preventing the drum from rotating freely.
- Please watch the whole video to understand the LG washing machine LE Error Code.
Removing the LG Washing Machine Motor
Before you start, make sure the drum rotates freely. If there’s no issue with the drum’s motion, you can proceed to check the wiring and motor. These are the steps:
- Disconnect your LG washer from the electricity supply.
- Remove the back panel and the lid.
- Remove the motor rotor (the outer part of the motor) by loosening the 17mm bolt. You may need someone to hold the drum while you do this.
- Remove the motor by holding it carefully and rocking it from side to side while pulling it towards you.
Inspecting the LG Washing Machine Motor & Removing Windings
- Check the magnets around the rotor for cracks or other damage, which can cause problems.
- Inspect the motor agitator hub and its splines. Sometimes, these can strip out, causing the motor to run but the drum not to turn.
- To remove motor windings, please undo the clips holding the wires since we don’t want any wires to rip when we ease the motor back.
- You can use a 10mm socket to remove the six bolts holding the windings in place.
- Finally, tilt the motor over gently to access the clips that hold the wires in place.
Testing LG Washer Wiring for LE Error Code
Before replacing the hall sensor, it’s worth checking all the wires from the hall sensor to the printed circuit board.
- Use a multimeter set on continuity to connect up each individual wire. Then, go to the circuit board to check the other end.
- The wiring colors are gray, white, blue, and red. Use a small screwdriver to get behind the tab at the top and ease it backwards. This process lets you test each individual wire for continuity.
- Check the wires on the motor. If any are damaged, repair or replace them before replacing the hall sensor.
- You should also check the three phases of the motor. To be able to this, you can watch our video.
Replacing LG Motor Hall Sensor
The hall sensor is responsible for detecting the motor’s status. If the wiring and motor fields are functioning correctly, you may need to replace the hall sensor.
- Using a small screwdriver, gently pry up the tab at the back and carefully remove the hall sensor. Note that the locking tabs can be a bit tricky to remove.
- It’s important to get the correct replacement hall sensor for your specific machine model. LG has produced a few different hall sensors over the past few years. Make sure to use your machine’s model number, found on its identification plate, to ensure you get the correct part.
- Once you have the new hall sensor, align it correctly over the tab, then carefully push it downwards until it locks into place.
Final Phase: Reassembling LG Washing Machine
After fixing the problem, you’ll need to reassemble your LG clothing machine.
- Ensure you use a thread-locking fluid (we prefer loctite) on the bolts as you reassemble. This will prevent the bolts from loosening over time.
- Once the machine is back together, set it to a spin cycle to test if the motor starts correctly. The pump should disengage within a few seconds, and the motor should start running.
- If everything is working correctly, you’ve successfully fixed the LE error code!
- Please remember that the whole video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.
Remember, if you need any parts for your appliance, including door seals, hall sensors, motors, pumps, or anything else, always use your full model number to ensure you get the correct parts.
