LG Washing Machine Service Test Diagnostic Mode 2020 Onwards

LG Washing Machine Test Diagnostic Mode Guide: New Models (2020 onwards)

Here we are with another comprehensive guide on entering the self-test diagnostic mode on LG's new washing machines, starting in 2020. In this guide, we'll walk you through the testing procedure and explain what to look out for when diagnosing faults with your machine.

Before diving into the diagnostic mode, it's important to note that, in the video, we used a smart meter to monitor voltage, ampere, wattage, and total energy consumption. It's an essential tool that gives you a clear understanding of your washing machine's operations.

Another great feature of LG's new washing machines is the part numbers displayed on all components, making it easier for consumers and engineers alike to replace parts. Moreover, LG continues to use split drums, allowing for easier bearing and spider replacements, unlike many modern machines with sealed drums.

Safety First!

  • Unplug your washing machine before starting work.
  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Entering Test Mode

  • Unlike older LG models, where you could press two buttons simultaneously to enter diagnostic mode, newer models require a different approach.
  • First, you need to press the on/off button and, within a second, press the second and fourth button.
  • This will activate the washing machine diagnostic mode, and you'll hear the door lock energise as the first test.
  • The LED lights will then light up to verify their function, and the software version will be displayed on the screen.

Testing Door Lock, LED Lights & Motor

  • Pressing the start button progresses you through each stage of the diagnostic sequence. The sequence varies depending on the machine's features. For instance, a machine with a hot water valve or a washer-dryer may have additional water valves to test. Therefore, the machine may not perform any function at certain points in the sequence. This is because it's set to test components that this specific machine may not have.
  • The first test checks the motor's clockwise rotation and energises the pump to empty any water. The RPM (revolutions per minute) will be displayed on the screen.
  • The next stage tests the machine's ability to increase the RPM to about 50% of its maximum capacity with the pump energised. For instance, a machine with a maximum capacity of 1400 RPM will reach around 600 RPM during this test. The RPM is displayed on the screen.
  • The following step tests the machine's ability to reach its maximum RPM while the pump is energised. For a machine with a 1400 RPM maximum, this stage should reach close to that figure.

Testing Water Valves, Pressure Switch, and Frequency Output

The final test examines the water valves at the back of the machine. However, they won't be energised until the drum has stopped rotating. The screen will show a number (255 in our video) which is the pressure switch telling the program the water level in the machine. An empty drum has a frequency of 255, and the maximum level for this machine is 229.

This guide should help you understand and navigate the self-test diagnostic mode on new LG washing machines. You must remember to always use the correct replacement parts and to handle your machine with care during these tests.

Please watch the whole video to understand the LG washing machine's pressure switch reading system.

Final Testings for LG Washing Machine Diagnostic Mode

  • The next rotation, pressing it once to button, may not result in anything happening. This could be because it is testing the circulation pump, particularly if you have a different model of machine.
  • The next test sequence will be doing an anti-clockwise rotation at 45 RPM, the same as the earlier test.
  • The next test involves testing the frequency going from the NTC sensor to read the temperature, which is measured in ohms. It will also energize the heating element to make sure the heating element comes on and everything is working correctly.
  • Please remember that the whole video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.

Exiting Test Mode

  • Pressing stop will end the test sequence and reset the program to work normally.
  • Now you're able to start the machine to whatever cycle you require or able to do the work on the machine.
