Tumble Dryer Not Turning? | Neff Siemens Bosch Tumble Dryer Belt Replacing
Guide to Belt & Capacitor Replacement for Bosch, Neff, and Siemens Tumble Dryers
In this detailed guide, we will show you how to replace a snapped belt in a Bosch, Neff, or Siemens tumble dryer. This guide will also serve as a useful resource if you need to access the motor, capacitor, or heating element of your machine.
If your tumble dryer's drum isn't turning, but you can hear a humming noise, the problem could be the belt or the capacitor. A snapped belt is easily identifiable as the drum will rotate freely without any resistance. On the other hand, a humming noise with an intact belt could indicate a faulty capacitor.
Please remember that, when working with any electrical appliances, safety should always be your top priority, and we also suggest you watch our video.

Safety First!
- Unplug your Bosch tumble dryer before starting work.
- Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.
Tools You'll Need:
- Screwdrivers (various sizes) or chargeable drill with correct extensions (if you have one).
- Vacuum cleaner.
Dismantling the Tumble Dryer
You can start by removing the two side panels and the back of the dryer. Additionally, the bearing case will also need to be removed.
While some might prefer to work from the front of the machine, we recommended to access the interior from the back as it provides better access to the components.
Start by removing the two screws at the back of the machine to detach the lid. Once the lid is off, you'll notice a visible wear mark where the belt should be sitting. If the belt is absent, it means that it has snapped and needs to be replaced.
Next, remove the screws that hold the side panels and the back panel in place, and please note that there are different types of screws used in tumble dryers. After the screws are removed, you can take off the side panels.
To remove the facial panel, first, take out the water container, then unscrew the three screws inside and one on the side of the panel. After removing all the screws, the panel can be detached and set aside.
Accessing the Motor and Capacitor & Removing the Heating Cover
Once the panels are removed, you'll have full access to the motor, capacitor, and fan blade area. You should take the cover off to get the belt over the motor and the two propellers. This will require the drum to be taken out.
Then, please remove the heating cover by unscrewing the screws from the bottom upwards. The screws from the middle downwards are usually plastic. You may need a screwdriver to pry the cover away as it tends to stick to the chassis because of the seal.
Finally, unclip the wire from the electrical filter suppressor to detach the heater and electronics. This will give you complete access to the interior of the tumble dryer, allowing you to replace the snapped belt or address any other issues that might have been detected in your initial inspection.
Remember to use your full model number from the identification plate when obtaining parts for your tumble dryer from our website.
Replacing the Belt & Reassembling the Tumble Dryer
To replace the belt, first, slide the new belt over the drum from the front of the machine. Ensure that it sits into the correct position, which you can identify by the wear mark from the old belt. Then, loop the belt over the motor shaft and tension pulley. You may need to apply some tension to get the belt over the pulley.
Once the new belt is in place, start reassembling the tumble dryer. Begin by replacing the heater and electronics back into the electrical filter suppressor. Then, screw back the heating cover, ensuring that the seal sticks properly to the chassis.
Replace the drum into the machine, ensuring that it fits correctly. Then, put the cover back over the motor, capacitor, and fan blade area.
Next, you will need to attach the facial panel back onto the machine. Start by screwing in the three screws inside and the one on the side of the panel. Then, put the water container back into its slot.
Finally, replace the side panels and the back panel of the machine, ensuring that all screws are securely tightened. Replace the lid of the machine by screwing the two screws at the back.
After everything is securely in place, reconnect the power supply to the tumble dryer.
Although our aim is to guide you through replacing the belt, checking the capacitor & motor area, etc. in this guide, we would recommend you watch the whole video to learn each step in detail.
Testing the Machine
Before you start using the machine regularly, it's important to do a quick test run. Turn on the tumble dryer and let it run for a few minutes. Listen for any unusual sounds and make sure that the drum is rotating as it should. If everything functions as expected, your tumble dryer is ready for use again.
Remember, always unplug your appliances before you start working on them. Safety should be your utmost priority when performing any kind of repair work.
