Indesit/Hotpoint Washing Machine Test Mode & Service Diagnostic Procedure

Repair Guide for Indesit/Hotpoint Washing Machine Test Mode & Diagnostic Service Mode

In this repair guide, we demonstrate how to enter test mode (also known as service mode or diagnostic procedure) on Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines manufactured roughly from 2019 onwards.

This applies to many models with dials featuring 16 wash functions on Indesit and Hotpoint washing machines.

If you've entered test mode correctly on Hotpoint models, it will be showing SAt sometimes misinterpreted as SAE.

On the other hand, Indesit models display as At code and sometimes misinterpreted as AE.

Safety First!

  • Diagnose test mode should always be run with the drum empty and no clothing in the drum.
  • If you have to do any work on the machine, make sure you unplug the appliance from the electricity supply.
  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion if you have to do any work on the machine.

Let's Begin!

In this Hotpoint & Indesit Washing machines test mode guide, you will learn:

  • How to identify compatible Hotpoint (NSW & WMFUG model numbers) and Indesit Innex washing machines.
  • A step-by-step guide to entering test mode.
  • What happens during the test cycle, including water valve activation, heating element function, motor rotation, and spin speeds.
  • How to interpret wattages displayed on a smart meter to diagnose potential problems.
  • Common error codes for these machines and their meanings.

Hotpoint & Indesit Washing Machines Test Mode Activation

First things first, you should treat the dial as a clock dial. We can easily say; on the model that we’re working on in the video that

  • The top one is 12 o’clock
  • Eco 40-60 is 1 o’clock
  • Cotton is 2 o’clock
  • Anti stain 40 is 11 o’clock

Other models of machine will have different wash functions in different positions. This is why you treat it like a clock face.

The easiest way to treat your display dial is like a clock, using the top position as 12 o’clock and then working your numbers off that.

The video really does explain this much better than trying to type the procedure up.

Going Into Diagnostic Mode on Hotpoint/Indesit Washing Machines

  1. Dial 12 o’clock while the machine is on, then turn it off. Make sure the screen is clear.
  2. And then turn it back on, turn dial to 1 o'clock, and then turn it off.
  3. Then go back to 12 o’clock and turn it on.
  4. Then turn dial to 2 o’clock and turn the machine off.
  5. Turn Dial back to 12 o’clock and then turn it on.
  6. Then turn dial to11 o'clock, right after go, and hit the start button.

  • After you start the machine in diagnostic mode, you should be able to see and check the individual water valves in the soap drawer.
  • As the water level rises in the tank, it will send a signal to the pressure switch the water level is measured using Hz frequency measurements. Then the heating system will be activated so that it can test the NTC sensor and heating element.
  • When it reaches a certain level of water, the machine will start doing an anticlockwise rotation and then a clockwise rotation. It will continue this testing for either a preset period of time or until it reaches a certain temperature.
  • The machine will then test the spin cycle and the pump empty system while building up the RPM gradually to the maximum rpm
  • At the end of the test cycle the machine will activate the door lock so it opens the door and the machine will shut down and go back to it's normal wash functionality.

Hotpoint/Indesit Washing Machine Error Codes

  • F01 error code is an electronic circuit board fault.
  • F02 is a motor fault (induction motor or brush motor).
  • F03 is a temperature sensor fault.
  • F05 error code is a pump fault (means unable to empty in an allocated time, which means the pump is detected and should be working but the machine is not able to do so).
  • F06 is a door lock fault.
  • F07 electronic circuit board fault on the heating circuit side (possible to say that the relay on the circuit board may have become faulty or bad wiring)
  • F08 is a heater fault.
  • F09 is a software fault.
  • F11 error code is a pump fault means the pump is open circuit, which is an electrical fault.
  • F12 is an electronic control fault.
  • F13 is an error code for washer dryers related to a dryer temperature sensor fault.
  • F15 is an error code for washer dryers and related to a heater control fault (circuit board/heating element/thermostat issue).
  • F16 is a drum lock position fault (top loaders only).
  • F18 is an internal data error fault.
