Hi! This was a super helpful video – thank you for taking the time to make everything so clear. The problem I’m having is that the large hob element on our hotpoint cooker just stopped working. It is a mixed element – part halogen lamp and part ceramic heating element. No matter how much I google for the spares their not available. When I did find one a few months back it was over £100 – which I wasn’t going to purchase.

I have three questions – how can I test the element itself to see if the element has malfunctioned or to see if something else in the cooker has malfunctioned?

Second. If it is the element and I need to replace it – is there any way to repair it instead?

Finally, if it has to be replaced – no repair possible. Can I replace it with a pure ceramic element of the same size / wattage (1800w)? The mixed halogen element has an extra set of connections – so I don’t know what to do with those.

    Thanks!
