rangemaster 90 dual fuel Oven won’t operate, cannot set auto timer clock

Hi Paul, I made this enquiry as I was so impressed by your clear utube instructions. I wondered how to get to the back of the clock.I reckon the top and the front above the grill will all come apart.P symbol in timer display, thermal link replaced, but i can not clear the fault

I will try and help with this problem with the electrics on your Rangemaster range

From what I can see I think the timer is not working correctly if you have consulted your manual and unable to get the time showing and it ​is not on manual then the oven will not work.

You will have to replace the timer or it is possible to bypass the two relays by joining each individual wire from each relay, as the relay is only a switching gear to turn the oven on at a required time​. I will put a simple diagram below.

without having the cooker in front of me it is very hard for me to tell you how it comes apart I can only give you some guidelines to assist you,

  • open the grill. On the right and oven and you may see a couple of screws holding the panel in place,
  • you also need to remove all the knobs off the cooker these come forward and can be sticky,
  • to remove the timer buttons I would use a thin flat blade screwdriver and prize them towards you be very careful with these as they can be brittle and snap,
  • if the panel does not come off then I think you have to remove the top of the cooker which is a big job just take your time and be careful as some screws can be seized I will need working out.

when you get to the timer to replace it or bypass it.

  • there​ are ​normally​ 4  plastic Clips to hold the timer in place Press these down, the timer should slide out, make sure you take a picture of the wiring before starting.
  • bypassing the timer. you can do this by joining the feed into the relay to the feed going out of the relay As a relay is only a switch electronically operated by the timer,  you should not attempt to do this unless you are competent with Electrics!

For your future reference I’ve included some Common faults with these ranges made by Rangemaster to assist you in the future or anyone else reading this.

  • The oven will not turn on
    The first thing you need to check is that the oven timer is not on auto if it is turn it on to manual.
  • No Heat in Oven
    If the fan is running and the thermostat light comes on but you get no heat (or just the thermostat light on in non-fan ovens and cookers) then the probability is that the fan element or oven elements have failed.
  • Electricity trips (Rcd) when I turn the oven on or grill
    This is normally an element that has gone to earth, This is a well-known fault with electric ovens, the insulation breaks down in the elements and trips the RCD , best way is to stick a meter on each element and check that they have not got earth leaks on them. But this can also be a wiring fault.
  • The grill element doesn't work
    This would usually indicate that the grill element is faulty. Check these: Grill element, Oven changeover switch, Overheat thermostat, Main oven thermostat, if used to regulate the grill temperature.
  • The oven fan is not working or spinning correctly (slow) or is noisy
    The fan motor may need to be replaced see video on this also the cooling fan motor can cause same problems.
  • The oven overheats and burns everything
    Normally this is a simple thermostat failure which would manifest itself as this symptom.
  • The oven or cooker cuts out after it's been on for a while
    This is an overheating problem which can be caused by the fan motor or main oven thermostat or a faulty safety thermostat that will be causing the problem. It can also be caused by a failure of the cooling fan, where fitted, but usually these go noisy before failing, Safety thermostats are used to prevent the oven or cooker overheating and will shut the oven down.

    Hi,
    I have a Rangemaster Classic 90. I have just replaced the FFD solenoid on the gas oven for the second time and although the oven lights without any problem, the flame doesn’t enlarge as it should when on full. What else could be the fault, or what else could be the problem? I can’t imagine that 2 new Solenoids would be faulty, they were bought from a reputable dealer.

      Keith, I have exactly the same problem. The flame just never gets above 1inch or so. I have had the FFD replaced and think that it is a little hotter but the flame never gets big and the temperature of the oven only reachers 170C when on full for 30 mins or so. Did you manage to fix it?

    Hi I have a rangemaster 90 classic, the smaller righthand over works but cooks things uneven, please would someone be able to help me find what the problem is?

    Rangemaster dual 90. The fan in the big oven works up to 180 only.
