An error code will be displayed on your washing machine or washer/dryer if the machine has a problem. Error codes will be displayed on your machine in one of two ways: Either on your digital display screen which will show an error code in a letter followed by two numbers format, Or washing machines without digital display it will show a series of flashing lights.

There are different ways that these are displayed so you will need to consult your manual on these or let us know your full model number with the fault sequence and we will try and help you.

These lights when flashing should be read in a binary fashion, these are the typical Hotpoint, Ariston, Indesit & Creda  error codes or fault codes for washing machines and dryers.

Now there may be some variances for older models, but there are 3 main types of board listed  so you need to know what you are looking for. This video is on How to Repair Washing Machine Flashing Lights.

Half way through a wash cycle it stops and the following lights come on “wash”, “rinse”, “spin”, “Drain” and “end”. Sometimes though it goes through the complete cycle ok. Any suggestions on how to fix this fault would be welcome.

Hi I changed the circuit board on my indesit Aquarius washing machine even though I couldn’t see any components blown, it was a second hand tested circuit board, I put the board back on and hay ho the machine worked and I did two loads of washing, but went to do another load and the lights started flashing again ( horror) I switched on and off a couple of times and they were still flashing, on the forth attempt it was ok, so the problem seem intermitant, as it was before, have I changed the board for no reason ?? And can someone please enlighten me, thank you

    • check all parts like motor and brushes first

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WML560P – 902170246. I had initially set the washer going and left it to its task only to return later to see all the horizintal LED’s flashing. I pulled the mains and left it for 10 minutes but the washer doesn’t do anything now.

The washer doesn’t start any program and after 10 minutes (ish) all the horizontal LEDs flash together quite fast. Power cycling makes no difference. The main motor doesn’t spin, nor does the water inlet valve switch on. Other than the operator panel LED’s and the clicking of the door solenoid there’s no activity.

I saw a utube video that seem to fit my conditions perfectly, the diagnosis of a bulging capacitor seemed a simple fix. Unfortunately my control PCB is different to the example in the video with no bulging caps anywhere.

The PCB itself has a large aluminium heatsink in the centre cooling 6 traics/transistors and a bridge rectifier. A white label near the large smoothing cap has the following details – CODE: 215009962.01 SW: 9.21.0 S/N: 901300336 RoHS DSP: 1.2.53

Are their any standard faults that you can send me a link for? Are there any flow charts to work through to aid a more precise diagnosis for this model? Any help at all would be wonderful as I’m reluctant to blame the main PCB without a better understanding of what has caused the fault.

Thanks, this video helps me repairing my machine with costs of only 0,27 EUR (for a 680µ and a 470µ capacitor) and 14,16 EUR for a beer (or more).

My Indesit washing machine wixxl146 pcb indicates that the capacitor is domed so I followed you advice and went to the tv repair shop and he soldered a capacitor he had on to it, when I placed the pcb back nothing happened everything was dead, when the fault first occurred all the lights flashed continuously, I was wondering if the tv guy had put the capacitor in properly or if his capacitor he put in was faulty so I went to Maplin and ordered a N70DG 680uf 25v. Can you tell me if this capacitor is suitable. I have watched your great video and it has encourage me enormously to do the repair myself.

    Cheers Ian

    Hi Paul,

As per the gentleman above, I went through the fix on my Indesit WIXXL 146 and identified one of the capacitors had domed, so I replaced the capacitor.

When I put the PCB back in the machine, it is completely dead with no lights. I haven’t done any soldering for years so wonder if I have either damaged the board or not put the capacitor in properly – any ideas as to what may be wrong?

Hi, I have just purchased a 2nd hand Ariston AVXL129 and tried to run it through first but the lights are just flashing. It filled with water (about an inch) and then won’t spin or drain. Can you help please?

We have a WD420 which is flashing only the on-off, drying high heat and reduce creases lights. We did in the past have the issue with all lights flashing and replaced the capacitor which fixed the problem for 12 months with 1-2 loads per week. Do you know what this error code means please? Thank you

Hi, I have a Hotpoint BHWM129 washing machine with all lights flashing. I have inspected the PCB and found R141 seems to be burnt. All other components appear to be ok.
Because R141 seems damaged, I cannot read the bands to determine the value. Could you offer any advice as to its value. (Hope you have a pcb for comparison)
    Thanks

hello good day! this is the 1st time that our washing machine has flashing lights problem. its a Candy cdb 134 model. Everything is working fine until i notice the extra rinse button that has light on. it will eventually keep on spinning for a minute and suddenly all the buttons light will flash and stop spinning for few seconds then it will spin again, it will happen again and again. If i try to turn off the machine and turn it back on, the extra rinse button is still lit. and if i try to put it in a certain programme it will start by itself even if i havent press the start program yet.

Ariston Washing Machine AML 105 KS, works normally, but exactly after five minutes, lights start blinking. All the five lights in the down panel are blinking-timer, spin, start, pause blinking continuously.

My daughter has a 5 year old Indesit IWB5113(UK).
When you first power up the machine, nothing happens for several minutes, then the ecotime, intensive wash, 1100-500, and delay timer lights are all flashing green and the stop/pause light is flashing orange. The 9h (spin) and 12h (drain) lights are lit solid green.
Is this to be fault code 12?
I have checked all connections and visually inspected the main board, which looks and smells ok and I have tested all capacitors to the limit of my capabilities, though I believe my meter in work may have a more suitable function, which I can investigate in the morning.
There is no water left in the machine with filter and pipework clear.
The door lock has a resistance of 1.2/1.3k.
About the only thing I haven’t checked is the brushes, but as it’s not even tried to do anything, I didn’t think I need do that just yet.
Any help would be gratefully received. I hate to beaten by these things!

    Many thanks,

    Steve.

We have a hotpoint hv8b593 that has begun stopping in a wash cycle with the super wash, extra rinse, reduced creases, spin exclusion and the start pause lights flashing. We have been trying to report it to hotpoint but as yet have got no reply from their service line.
