This tutorial can be used on CDA, Delonghi, Diplomat, Hygena, Elba, Kenwood, Tecnolec ovens or cookers Etc.It will show you how to diagnose the fault and how to replace a fan oven element.

The fan oven that has stopped heating up is one of the most common problems that oven repair & cooker repair engineers are called to.

The problem in most cases is simply a faulty fan oven element. To call out the manufacture (CDA, Delonghi, Diplomat, Hygena, Elba, Kenwood, Tecnolec) to replace an oven element is going to cost you in the region of £75 – £125.

Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating

If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty.

When you turn the oven on the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element.

Note that in some cases the fan oven element fails and it will trip the consumer unit’s rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board). If so then it needs to be re-set, but if every time you turn the fan oven on it keeps tripping then this could be a faulty element that has gone to earth.

The following symptoms should be apparent when testing your cooker:

  • Make sure your timer is not on auto.
  • Check to see if Fan oven is not heating up,
  • Check to see if fan in the oven is working fine,
  • Check to see if thermostat light is on.
  • On removal of the Fan Oven Element (see below) there may be visual signs of burning, blowing, or splitting but not in all cases. Is no sign of damage you will have to test with a meter.

Our video instructions will show you exactly how to replace a CDA, Delonghi, Diplomat, Hygena Elba, Kenwood, Tecnolec oven element yourself, and save you lots of money!

We have a CDA C9T Model RC9020SS with a double electric oven (large on the left small on the right). The main oven is heating up, taking absolutely ages but not reaching higher temperatures such as over 180 degrees.

Can you advise what the problem is likely to be? Whether its the heater element or is it maybe the thermostat?

Can you let me know the cost of parts required please? Many thanks.

    No oven no turkey!

    Paul – can you help

I have a Delonghi Cual Fule Cook D906GWF. The service manual doesn’t even touch upon replacement of the thermostat. I have the part but after taking off the back of the stove, can’t find it. I have traced the sensor to the side of the oven which has so far been impossible to remove. Can you provide more definitive instructions please – starting with “where the heck is the thermostat?” Thanks

I have a Flavel fan oven and the element has just blown for the third time, I have had it about two years and don’t do much cooking. Should I replace the element again or get a new cooker?

    Hi. Can you help…

When I turn on the oven it seems to be fine for 10 minutes then switches off and acts like it has a loose connection ie. if I jiggle the knob I can get it to come back on again sometimes – but it doesn’t stay on for long if so. The smaller oven still seems to be working fine so I it’s not the electricity supply and not the thermostat as it gets hot just turns off, and therefore its not the heating element(which i replaced last year)

Is it likely to just need a replacement on/off/temperature switch for the oven knob?

    My cooker is Kenwood CK404

    Thanks for your help

Hi Joel, we have a very similar oven and have recently experienced the same problem. Sometimes the oven stays on once we get it on, which is helped by jiggling it, sometimes it just keeps going off after a few seconds. Have you sorted the problem now?

Hi, I have replaced element in fan oven and still no heat. The top and bottom heaters do not get the oven hot enough. Is it the thermostat? thank you

We have an Elba built-in oven which currently causes the home electricity supply to trip when we try to turn it on and select the fan type. Please advise whether this is a minor repair and should not cost alot for repair (oven is out of warranty, by the way). Thanks.

We have a Creda double oven (europa S150E) and had the main oven on this morning, when we noticed it had not reached the required temperature, then a blue/grey film appeared on the glass and when we looked inside it was spread right over the whole oven. When we wiped it with tissue it is a brown dust. Can you advise please?

    Hello,
I have a CDA electric fan oven. We changed the element at the back of the oven 2 weeks ago as it wasn’t heating at all. it worked fine for about a week and now it has gone again. It heats up using the upper and lower heating elements (convection) but takes ages. Is this a sign of a bigger problem, i.e. do we need a new oven?
    Thank you!
    Linda.

    Hi,
We have an AEG Competence electric oven and at present the temperature / thermostat light does not switch on but the fan and the oven light switches on. The timer is set to manual and i’m wondering whether is a fault element, faulty thermostat or both being faulty?

Would be grateful for any advice,

    Many thanks,
    Usman

Hi, i have a Flavel Milano E60 electric cooker, i’ve had this coming up to 2 year and has always worked fine until last night! The oven started making a spitting noise and the light at the back was flickering as though one of the wires were going to catch fire! Anyone know what this could be.

Just got a new BEKO electric fan oven. Gave it a test run as required by the manual. On testing the grill it tripped the fuse. Could this be wiring issue?

    Hi there
I have a CDA cooker , it is heating up for five minutes but then it is tripping the main fuse book
How can I find the fault

    • hi Claire this sounds like the element has is tripping your supply they break down sometimes when getting warm if its main oven then it will be your fan oven element. please send me your model number and i will send you the link to the right part

Lamona fan oven changed element worked for two weeks oven triped now oven and display won’t work

Our Diplomat oven fan is also making a horrendous noise, pretty much as soon as it is switched on. I’ve removed the fan cover and the problem appears to be that the fan is a bit wobbly, the spindle does not seem as secure as I think it should be.

I’m not keen on investigating further. Is this a professional job?
