SMEG SE20XMFR5 oven Trips the electric cooker

by / Saturday, 26 December 2020 / Published in

My oven trips after a few minutes of use. There’s continuity on all 3 elements (30-70 ohms) but the resistance between the elements and the outer body is poor (2Mohms to 28Mohms none of them come up with no reading). I’m concerned that it appears all the elements have failed? Could this be caused by the thermostat not regulating and the elements breaking down as a result? Your advice would be appreciated as would a quote to supply all 3 elements and a new thermostat switch with capillary?Best regardsAntony

I will try and help with this problem SMEG cooker SE20XMFR5 oven

although you have resistance on all the elements it only takes one element to go to earth in the oven to trip, the only way to test these properly is with a mega or insulation tester but it is possible for you to disconnect one element at a time and then try the cooker I have included a video below to show you how to test elements properly and also a list of parts below.
