Whirlpool Washing Machine Error Fault Codes – FOO, FH, FA, FP, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, F14, F15, F16, F18, F20, F21, F22, FDL, FDU

This video will show you how to enter your Whirlpool Washing Machine into test mode and diagnose the fault codes on AWO/D & AWD Series and general Whirlpool washing machines that may not relate to models sold outside Europe, especially models sold in the USA.

We are working on a Whirlpool, but this video is also good for Bauknecht, Fisher & Paykel, Ignis, Ikea, Laden, Maytag, Neutral & Philips models of washing machine.

How to Enter Test Mode Sequence

To enter the diagnostic/test mode sequence, you need to turn the dial to the DRAIN position, which is at eleven o´clock; then you must press the RESET button four times, within five seconds to enter the test mode sequence. (See video on this)
NOTE: this doesn´t always go in first time, so as soon as you turn the dial from the OFF position to the DRAIN position, you have 5 seconds to press the RESET button 4 times.

Once the machine as entered the test mode sequence you will see a series of flashing lights:
1 - The machine starts by checking if the door lock is working correctly;

2 - Then goes to a fill sequence where it will test each water valve individually – it will start filling the right hand compartment in the soap drawer, then switches over to the other water valve on the left hand compartment, after this, both water valves will be activated (fills all three compartments, including the fabric conditioner in the middle);

3 - Next it will test right hand rotation of the motor (clockwise), and left hand rotation of the motor (anticlockwise), while it´s also testing the NTC sensor and the heater element;

4 - The machine goes into empty cycle;

5 -Full test on the motor at maximum RPM

 To Exit Test Mode

 The machine will automatically exit the diagnostic/test mode sequence

After the test sequence if you find that you do need a part for your washing machine, you will need the full model number of the ID Plate, which you can normally find on the inside of the door frame or in the rear of the machine.

Sometimes you will need the 12 digit number, which is usually prefixed with 12NC in front of it, on some parts you will need both of these numbers, it might not be listed on the website because it is serial number dependent. (see picture on the left)

    Machine details: Whirlpool AWO/D 5726 (12 NC 8592 936 15205)

    Have just run the diagnostics and no fault codes are present however this machine tends to stop around the 33 minutes remaining for around 15-20 minutes (I’ve never actually timed it though). I’m going to hazard a guess this is when it’s supposed to be heating up and that the element is on its way out or caked in scale (our water is fairly hard). Do you think that is a reasonable assumption?
    Assuming that is the likely cause can you please tell me which element I need.
    Also are replacement front panels available – yes the metal one as mine is rusting at the bottom. If they are can you provide a price please.

    At this time I am unsure whether to repair or replace our 6-7 year old machine so no promises of an order but I certainly have the tools and skills to be able to safely repair if that is the way I go.
    Many thanks, Mark.

    • Hi test the heating element and ntc sensor also test the water valves. you might have a problem with intermittent fault on the pump if full of water when it stops.

    it suddenly stopped working, not possible to switch it on for fault tracing.
    i check power to the machine and it looks good.
    does anyone knows why it does not start at all?

    thank you.

    Thanks Paul,
    is it worse to try to repair or its better to buy a new machine?
    where pcb is located? is it possible to check it if something is wrong with chip? I mean if its easy to get chip out of the machine?
    thank you for help and have a nice day.

    Hi,
    Is there any video related to F13 error code, thanks.

  11. David Finnigan says : Reply

    Great video in the sense i have the exact same washing machine. What do you do if you get an f-08 error code like mine has?? I went into the test mode on my machine myself. but having an f-08 error it wouldn’t even begin to start filling my machine with water before the error even came up. I checked the wiring to the heating element and all looks above board The only thing I’m guessing would be to replace the heating element, but with NO videos on that anywhere on the internet I suppose I will have to call out an engineer. If you could post some more information on this error code f-08 it would save alot of people some grief!

    • have you checked the heater?

        I have located the heater. I’m trying to work out what I’m looking at. All the wiring looks fine! How do you check continuity? Thank you for the reply

      • David Finnigan says : Reply

        If it was the heater, Would it be able to wash on cold??? It still comes up with the same fault

    Hello Paul my machine is showing F8, how do I check this fault I have located the heating element open circuit the wiring is fine I don’t think there is a relay. What can I do now please???

    Hi.

    I have a Whirlpool AWOE 9424 that shows error code F08. I have replaced the heater element but it still shows the code..what else can be faulty or do i need to do some reset for the machine to clear the error?

    Hi.
    Thank you for this great video and explanations!!!
    I have a Whirlpool AWO/D 40100 Europe Model.
    The test completes without error.
    However sometimes (can’t figure which times) it stops before rinsing and draining and the middle service red light is on.
    I is full of water when it stops. When it does that I manually put it on drain, wait for the door to open and then put it on the program that says rinse and spin, so it rinses and spins and finishes the washing.
    I have checked the filter and valves and can’t find anything blocking them.
    It might have something to do when too many cloths inside(??)

    Thank you!

    • Lazaros says : Reply

      To be specific it stops right after the main wash, the middle (third out of five) green light is on and red service light is on and the washer is full of water.

    • also check there is no blockage in the pipes going to and from pump

      • Lazaros says : Reply

        Dear Paul,
        I have checked all the input and output pipes, also the drain pipe going to the pump (with the white golf ball inside) and there is no blockage anywhere.
        The washing maching keeps stoping in middle cycle but only when I put enough clothes inside.
        If it is has little clothing or is empty the cycle goes fine, it drains and spins no error.

        I also have notice that the water when in test mode is a bit low (does not reach the glass window, but I can see it inside the main washer)

        • Lazaros says : Reply

          Dear Paul,

          I have adjusted the water level by turning the central screw of the pressure switch clockwise. The water is sufficient now but the problem persists. The test cycle completes again with no error.

          I have observed the entire cycle (on synthetic 40 Celsius full of laundry) and noticed that it completes the main wash. It drains the waters and fills for the first rinse but after that fill it stops. It does not execute the first rinse. Door stays locked and the drum is full of water.
          The leds rinse (middle) and softener (next to it on the right) are green and the service red light is on.

          Please advise,
          Best Regards,
          LS

    Hi Paul – I have a Whirlpool AWO 8127 and all the buttons / settings are in italian. The 11 o’clock position correllates to “Cotone” / cotton and not ‘drain’ on my machine. Additionally, there is a series of buttons on the right hand side. Do you know the proper sequence to enter diagnostic test mode? Thanks! Rob

    I have a WFS1073CD washing machine which I have replaced the heater element on after getting a F08 error code – your video was excellent on this BTW. It worked for about two weeks and then had the check pump light come on a number of times, which was also accompanied by a horrible noise. I have ordered a new pump but other half had tried to fix the issue (he is not mechanically minded at all) and now it comes up with an error code of F24 and F02. He tipped the washing machine on it’s side and took off the pipe which goes from the bottom of the bowl to the water pump – not sure if he put it back right. Advice on how to repair please, would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Paul,
    Amazing website, a wealth of knowledge and information. I’m not sure you covered my problem. Something heavy fell off a shelf above my trusty Whirlpool AWO/D 6707 washing machine and took off the dial knob. We pushed it back in easily in the vein hope that that would solve it but it knows that we did something wrong and it’s not happy.

    Is this something I can fix myself (how do I get the front off?) or is it snapped and best to call in the professionals?

    Thank you!

    Jess
