Whirlpool Washing Machine Error Fault Codes – FOO, FH, FA, FP, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, F14, F15, F16, F18, F20, F21, F22, FDL, FDU

This video will show you how to enter your Whirlpool Washing Machine into test mode and diagnose the fault codes on AWO/D & AWD Series and general Whirlpool washing machines that may not relate to models sold outside Europe, especially models sold in the USA.

We are working on a Whirlpool, but this video is also good for Bauknecht, Fisher & Paykel, Ignis, Ikea, Laden, Maytag, Neutral & Philips models of washing machine.

How to Enter Test Mode Sequence

To enter the diagnostic/test mode sequence, you need to turn the dial to the DRAIN position, which is at eleven o´clock; then you must press the RESET button four times, within five seconds to enter the test mode sequence. (See video on this)
NOTE: this doesn´t always go in first time, so as soon as you turn the dial from the OFF position to the DRAIN position, you have 5 seconds to press the RESET button 4 times.

Once the machine as entered the test mode sequence you will see a series of flashing lights:
1 - The machine starts by checking if the door lock is working correctly;

2 - Then goes to a fill sequence where it will test each water valve individually – it will start filling the right hand compartment in the soap drawer, then switches over to the other water valve on the left hand compartment, after this, both water valves will be activated (fills all three compartments, including the fabric conditioner in the middle);

3 - Next it will test right hand rotation of the motor (clockwise), and left hand rotation of the motor (anticlockwise), while it´s also testing the NTC sensor and the heater element;

4 - The machine goes into empty cycle;

5 -Full test on the motor at maximum RPM

 To Exit Test Mode

 The machine will automatically exit the diagnostic/test mode sequence

After the test sequence if you find that you do need a part for your washing machine, you will need the full model number of the ID Plate, which you can normally find on the inside of the door frame or in the rear of the machine.

Sometimes you will need the 12 digit number, which is usually prefixed with 12NC in front of it, on some parts you will need both of these numbers, it might not be listed on the website because it is serial number dependent. (see picture on the left)

    Hi
    I have a whirlpool awoe 8100
    Its says error F12. right at the beginning of all cycles even a 20 degree wash,
    Could it be anything besides for the heating element firstly because it shows the error immediately and the heating element should only switch on after a few minutes secondly a 20 degree wash the water is not even heated so there it shouldnt be going on at all.
    Also can you give some instructions as to where the heating element is on the machine and how to open it and change it.
    I understand some machines it is at the front and some its at the back. Is there a way to just open the front without opening it from the back.
    Thank you

    Hello, I have a whirlpool washing machine: WFS1071BW

    The pump failed, so I ordered the right pump. Replaced it which was not too hard, ,it went well. The old pump had a burned part….not good!
    Now the washing machine does everything well except it does not switch on the pump?

    Can you help? Is there a fuse perhaps?

    You help is soooooooo welcome,

    Rose

    Hi – I have a Whirlpool AWO/D 4605 12NC 859233315102 and your video of the diagnostic mode was very informative, thank you. However, can you give me the chart that converts the LED indicators (when there is a fault condition) into the error codes that you describe. Many Thanks Peter

    Hi, I have a whirlpool 4305 (same as in this post) and the service light is on along with the Wash, Rinse and the Spin/Drain lights… I don’t know what this means and all the manuals and tutorials are really confusing. Any chance you know what this means? Thanks in advance. Daniel

    I have a whirlpool wwdc 6th sense. I has the service light ‘on’ shortly after the cycle starts. My washer doesn’t have the error code displayed. So guess I need to use the various lights. I go into diag mode but can’t find where the inventor of error light and there root cause ? thanks

    Whirlpool WFS1273AW (12NC 461970411771) Test mode error code ‘002’? I had replaced the carbon brushes expecting all to be resolved but not to be. Please advise what error code ‘002’ means and what I should try to do next.

    I ran the diagnostic. No error codes. However, my machine stops between 9 and 11 minutes with red light showing. What next?

    I have an AWO D7114 which is excessively noisy during the spin cycle. I’ve rotated the drum by hand and it seems to move quite smoothly with no adverse noise, so I had a look inside and the drive belt and motor appear to be OK. I haven’t removed the springs or shock absorbers, but they also appear to be OK. I welcome any comments or suggestions you may have. Thanks in advance.

    Hello, I have Whirlpool AWO/D 6188 which I parked beside it will not just power on! Though it seem old, I had barely unboxed it some 4 years ago and it worked for less than 3 years.

    Is there any basic steps to at least turn it on to see if there was any error codes?

    Thanks.

    Good morning, I have a Whirlpool 8018 6 sense washing machine, which reports error F13. I already changed the lock module and the error persisted. What could it be?

    Hello, I have Whirlpool AWE 2316/1. AA800.
    Just service light red. Rinse and Spin/Drein light don’t work. And start light blinking.

    Hello… We have a Whirlpool AWOD 5726 washing machine and the red service has come on, we have gone through the diagnostic test sequence and no error codes have appeared on the display. As part of that test sequence does it test all the leads? for instance things such as “closed water valve” because that and a few others stay lit during the test sequence. The digital display does count up as each individual check is done which I assume is normal the display just shows rotating lines… Any help would be most appreciated…
