Smeg SC109-8 single built in oven not heating
Hi Paul! My Smeg SC109-8 Single Oven is not heating up. It was on for 45 minutes set to 180 deg and was still cold inside. The temperature display is on,the fan is also working but it just doesn't get hot. Also the grill works fine and is heating to the set temperature. Any ideas? I was hoping there might be a simple explanation rather than have to call for a service engineer. Please help
Kate
Hi Kate!
If your Smeg SC109-8 Single Oven is not heating or tripping the electric supply there is a good chance that the fan oven element has blown. I have included some videos below to help you test and then replace the element. Also I have include a link here for list of parts for your Smeg SC109-8 Single Oven cooker.
Smeg SC109-8 Single Oven fan oven element
For your future reference I’ve included some Common faults with these Smeg SC109-8 Single Oven cookers to assist you in the future or anyone else reading this.
- The oven will not turn on
The first thing you need to check is that the oven timer is not on auto if it is turn it on to manual. - No Heat in Oven
If the fan is running and the thermostat light comes on but you get no heat (or just the thermostat light on in non-fan ovens and cookers) then the probability is that the fan element or oven elements have failed. - Electricity trips (Rcd) when I turn the oven on or grill
This is normally an element that has gone to earth, This is a well-known fault with electric ovens, the insulation breaks down in the elements and trips the RCD , best way is to stick a meter on each element and check that they have not got earth leaks on them. But this can also be a wiring fault. - The grill element doesn't work
This would usually indicate that the grill element is faulty. Check these: Grill element, Oven changeover switch, Overheat thermostat, Main oven thermostat, if used to regulate the grill temperature. - The oven fan is not working or spinning correctly (slow) or is noisy
The fan motor may need to be replaced see video on this also the cooling fan motor can cause same problems. - The oven overheats and burns everything
Normally this is a simple thermostat failure which would manifest itself as this symptom. - The oven or cooker cuts out after it's been on for a while
This is an overheating problem which can be caused by the fan motor or main oven thermostat or a faulty safety thermostat that will be causing the problem. It can also be caused by a failure of the cooling fan, where fitted, but usually these go noisy before failing, Safety thermostats are used to prevent the oven or cooker overheating and will shut the oven down.
If you need any more help on this oven feel free to send me an email or use the live chat. All the best Paul.

Hi, my oven and grill will not heat up, it is on manual and the temperature light is not coming on. Can you give any advice please, thank you
Hi my oven lights on but no fan or heat.
Regards,
Kris
Hi Kris
My Smeg oven has exactly the same problem. Have you resolved yours? If so what was it?
Hi
I have a single oven smeg. It has had the thermostat replaced 3 times. But it’s still not holding its temperature correctly, especially at moderate heat. This means it won’t cook a cake as it won’t rise properly. The temperature seems to drop way below the set temperature before the light comes on and it starts to bring it back up to temperature. Thanks
today our smeg opera a1 will not heat
the fan turns on, and I can hear the thermostat click when I turn up the heat, but the red light does not come on, and it is not heating.
the gas burners are working fine.
(the led clock broke a few months ago, it started getting dimmer, and finally it was all out.)
we got it to work by setting the clock, there had been a power failure.
anyone know how costly a led clock replacement is? (its the circular led version)
I cannot set the time on my smeg oven Smeg SC109-8. It does not flash after unplugging it from electricity and it keeps all the characters on. But no flash. What can I do? Thank you, Maaya
