Good morning Andrew. I will try and help with this problem about Miele WT2780 Washer Dryer

You mentioned your Miele WT2780 completes a timed cycle, but not on sensor dry. This usually means the machine isn't detecting moisture in the clothes inside the drum.

I'm sorry I don't have a schematic diagram for your machine model, but let me explain how the drying cycle works. The fan and heater turn on, blowing air through the drum. The vapour then reaches the condenser plate at the back of the machine. A small amount of cold water trickles down this plate from a water valve. The warm moist air condenses against this water, and a pump removes it.

If your machine dries clothes on a timed cycle, it means the heating system, fan, water valve and pump are all working properly. There must be a moisture sensor in the airflow system to detect the water level in the clothing. If this sensor is faulty, it won't send the correct moisture level to the circuit board. This could be why your tumble dryer works on a timed cycle but not on the sensor cycle. The timed cycle usually bypasses the sensor, as it only dries for a preset amount of time.

I suggest checking any thermostat or NTC sensor along the heating system to ensure they're working correctly. You might need to do an ohms reading to check if the NTC sensors are functioning properly. Unfortunately, Miele machines don't provide us with data needed to test the NTC sensor. However, there's a video below explaining how NTC sensors work. You might find information online about what your NTC sensor's ohms reading should be.

There's also a helpful video explaining how moisture sensors work on regular tumble dryers, as they use an ohms reading to detect water levels in clothing by resistance. I'm sorry I can't help more, but feel free to contact me through our contact page if you need further assistance. If your dryer works on a time cycle but not on the sensor cycle, one of the sensors might be faulty. I hope this helps you find the problem. Have a great weekend!
