BEKO BD533AW oven door won’t close properly

by / Wednesday, 09 September 2020 / Published in

Hi Paul , The main oven door on my cooker wont close properly. when I try to close it there is about an inch gap between the door and the oven cavity. I can close the door if I use force but I am worried that doing this will cause the door to break completely. I have removed the door , cleaned everything all round the seal and hinges but since putting things back together the door wont shut. Have i done something wrong when putting it back together?

I will try and help with this problem with your Beko BD533AW Electric Cooker

An electric ovens door not closing is a common problem. You will first need to identify the cause of the door not closing

  • Latch problems - a damaged latch which may need replacing. Some latches are fidgety and on some oven models they can be fragile-trying to force the door can cause the latch to break
  • Hinge Problems - the hinges on an oven door can get stiff over time by things like rust and dirt. Try to keep these clean and oiled. It could be your door hinges have been damaged or knocked out of alignment- you could try manoeuvring the frame to re align the hinges.
  • Oven frame –the constant use of your oven warming and cooling can also cause problems with your oven door over time. This can cause the frame work to move out of alignment and even a small movement can cause the lock or latch to fail. Tightening the screws can help move the frame back into place.
  • Worn Door Seal - will also prevent the door from staying closed and sealed. This should be replaced to prevent heat from escaping from the interior oven space as oven seal detaching is one of the reasons why cooking times can be prolonged.

I have included diagrams and videos to assist you in your repair or replacement.

For your future reference, I’ve included some Common faults with these Beko BD533AW  cooker Oven cookers to assist you in the future or anyone else reading this.

  • The oven will not turn on
The first thing you need to check is that the oven timer is not on auto if it is, turn it on to manual.
  • No Heat in Oven
If the fan is running and the thermostat light comes on but you get no heat (or just the thermostat light on in non-fan ovens and cookers) then the probability is that the fan element or oven elements have failed.
  • Electricity trips (Rcd) when I turn the oven on or grill
This is normally an element that has gone to earth, This is a well-known fault with electric ovens, the insulation breaks down in the elements and trips the RCD , best way is to stick a meter on each element and check that they have not got earth leaks on them. But this can also be a wiring fault.
  • The grill element doesn't work
This would usually indicate that the grill element is faulty. Check these: Grill element, Oven changeover switch, Overheat thermostat, Main oven thermostat, if used to regulate the grill temperature.
  • The oven fan is not working or spinning correctly (slow) or is noisy
The fan motor may need to be replaced see video on this also the cooling fan motor can cause same problems.
  • The oven overheats and burns everything
Normally this is a simple thermostat failure which would manifest itself as this symptom.
  • The oven or cooker cuts out after it's been on for a while
This is an overheating problem which can be caused by the fan motor or main oven thermostat or a faulty safety thermostat that will be causing the problem. It can also be caused by a failure of the cooling fan, where fitted, but usually these go noisy before failing, Safety thermostats are used to prevent the oven or cooker overheating and will shut the oven down.
