by / Tuesday, 16 June 2020 / Published in

Dried a couple of loads after not using it for a month or so as nice weather all was well. Went to get last load and not dry, it was still damp and warm. Filter light showed so checked fluff filter and not much in it. Filter light went out. Tried to start but once press start button just makes a noise like something is trying to start but nothing! Un plugged etc and husband has tested sensors and heating thermastats as per video instruction and all good. All normal lights on display etc. Cleaned out all the fluff we could find including where fluff filter sits and in hose and vent etc. Does have the warm smell to it if u know what I mean!? It’s hoover vision HD vented VHV 781C.Drum moves well when moved manually and belt seems tight to drum and noobvious damage we can see. Husband at loss and is driving him bonkers and me also!! He’s thinking started capacitor? Any help much appreciated x

Hi Mandy,

If the tumble dryer is not rotating when you start the program, but if with the top lid removed, a little push on the drum makes it rotates on its own, then it will be the capacitor. Its job is just to give the motor a jump start, which you effectively did by pushing the drum.

The right capacitor for your model will be 7,5uF. I have put a link to them below. Also there are a couple of videos to help you with fitting the capacitor as well as a comprehensive guide on how to service a tumble dryer. As you are going to open it up to change the capacitor it is well worth the time vacuuming the interior of all the fluff that accumulates. You will be amazed how much it collects inside the machine.
