How to Solve AE Error on LG Washing Machine Leaking? | Washing Machine Leaking From Bottom!

LG Washing Machine Leaking Repair Guide: Why Is Your Washing Machine Leaking?

If you've noticed your LG washing machine leaking from underneath, or you see an AE error code appearing on the display (which indicates water detected in the bottom of the machine by the anti-flood device), then this guide is for you.

You should remember that newer LG washing machines have a sealed bottom, so it can be challenging for you to locate the source of the leak. Nonetheless, we will guide you through the steps to find and address the leak.

In the meantime, we would recommend you watch the whole video to learn how to find the source of the leaking in detail.

Safety First!

  • Unplug your washing machine before starting work.
  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Initial Inspection

Before dismantling your machine, there are a few simple checks to perform. Two of the most common faults are related to the door seal and the glass. Firstly, you should inspect the door seal thoroughly, ensuring it's clean. Then, check the glass for any built-up calcification. If there's a leak in either of these areas, you'll see stain marks indicating dripping water.

Also, you will need to inspect the back of the machine near the water valves. Make sure there are no leaks on the pipes and check underneath your sink unit where the fill pipe and waste pipe are connected.

Please remember that the whole video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.

Going Through the Back Panel

After disconnecting the machine from the electricity supply, gently remove the back of the machine. Please dry out the inside and look for any distinctive marks of leakage on any component. This could give you a good indication of a leak source.

You can reconnect the machine and put it onto a test cycle to see if you can identify where the water is coming from. Pay attention to the door seal, the filling hose from the soap box, and the drum. You can also check the heater for leaks, the pump unit, the sump hose, and the waste hose.

Inspecting from the Front Panel

Starting from the top, you should also check the soap box area. Remember that too much water pressure or a calcified soap box due to the high calcium content in your water can cause leaks. On newer models of LG washing machines, customers tend to report soap box hoses wearing against the side of the cabinet, causing holes and leaks.

Next, you will need to inspect the door seal for leaks, looking for any perforations. Any stain marks on the drum from the door seal could indicate water leakage. Also, check the drain-off hose at the bottom (this is not fitted on older models). The pump filter at the bottom can also cause leaks if its seal has worn out due to repeated use.

Checking the Pressure Bowl, Pressure Switch Hose & Pump Unit

On machines less than 5 years old, the hose running from the pressure bowl up to the pressure switch is usually not a problem. However, due to the machine's constant movement, these pipes can sometimes get a perforation hole.

An overfilling machine may indicate a leaking water valve, which allows water to flow into the machine continuously. You should dry out the area completely before checking so you can accurately determine where the water is coming from.

Lastly, you need to inspect the pump unit. Please make sure that the pump's shaft is not worn with the seal, which could cause a leak. If you find the pump to be the source of the leak, you may need to replace it.
