Whirlpool Washing Machine Error Fault Codes – FOO, FH, FA, FP, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, F14, F15, F16, F18, F20, F21, F22, FDL, FDU

This video will show you how to enter your Whirlpool Washing Machine into test mode and diagnose the fault codes on AWO/D & AWD Series and general Whirlpool washing machines that may not relate to models sold outside Europe, especially models sold in the USA.

We are working on a Whirlpool, but this video is also good for Bauknecht, Fisher & Paykel, Ignis, Ikea, Laden, Maytag, Neutral & Philips models of washing machine.

How to Enter Test Mode Sequence

To enter the diagnostic/test mode sequence, you need to turn the dial to the DRAIN position, which is at eleven o´clock; then you must press the RESET button four times, within five seconds to enter the test mode sequence. (See video on this)
NOTE: this doesn´t always go in first time, so as soon as you turn the dial from the OFF position to the DRAIN position, you have 5 seconds to press the RESET button 4 times.

Once the machine as entered the test mode sequence you will see a series of flashing lights:
1 - The machine starts by checking if the door lock is working correctly;

2 - Then goes to a fill sequence where it will test each water valve individually – it will start filling the right hand compartment in the soap drawer, then switches over to the other water valve on the left hand compartment, after this, both water valves will be activated (fills all three compartments, including the fabric conditioner in the middle);

3 - Next it will test right hand rotation of the motor (clockwise), and left hand rotation of the motor (anticlockwise), while it´s also testing the NTC sensor and the heater element;

4 - The machine goes into empty cycle;

5 -Full test on the motor at maximum RPM

 To Exit Test Mode

 The machine will automatically exit the diagnostic/test mode sequence

After the test sequence if you find that you do need a part for your washing machine, you will need the full model number of the ID Plate, which you can normally find on the inside of the door frame or in the rear of the machine.

Sometimes you will need the 12 digit number, which is usually prefixed with 12NC in front of it, on some parts you will need both of these numbers, it might not be listed on the website because it is serial number dependent. (see picture on the left)

    Hi Paul,
    Do you have the PCB of AWO 3161.
    Thanks
    Kelvin

      Hi Kelvin,

      Unfortunately none of our suppliers have it. Even it they did the price would be ridiculous. The cheapest way to get a board, would be to buy a cheap machine on ebay with a bad drum, or other fault but good electronics and use it for spares.

      Regards,
      Ferdinando

    Hi, I’m getting an error code of F06. I have run the diagnostic test and everything worked fine the first time. I run it for a second time and F06 come up. I know the motor is working so could it be my carbon brushes? I have taken the motor apart and they don’t seem that worn down… The machine is a good 7-8 years old though. Thanks in advance.

    I have a Whirlpool washer, model AWO/D050 that’s completely dead while main power supply is ok, i tried and tested the fuse ok, checked for continuity on the power cable ok. Tried to replaced the filter capacitor but washer is still dead. Could it be the door lock that needs replacement? Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Dear Paul, can yoh help me with error on machine AWO/D 41105? When it turn on it fill in water without problem. After it should start to turn around but it doesn’t. It make only half circle and nothing else-signalize error with red diode. Motor is in good condition, brushes as well. May it be tacho problem or centr unit fault? Thank you so much!

    Hi Paul,

    My AWO/D 5706/S has stopped working. The last time it worked I had to use the spin cycle a couple of extra times after the wash and now, whichever wash I try to set it to, the timer says it has around 23 mins instead of around 2 hours, and it won’t start. I went into test mode sequence and it’s saying error code F13 which apparently means an issue with the door lock? Can you advise me as to what to do about it? I assume there will be further problems after that too but I guess it can’t diagnose the rest until it gets past the first one. No idea what to do or how this has happened – coule it have been damaged by a power surge?

    Thanks,
    Kat
