LG Washing Machine Door Seal Replacement Guide: How to Replace Washing Machine Door Seal?

Are you tired of a leaky LG washing machine? If your seal is leaking or torn, or you have a tear on the lip then this video is for you.

In this guide, we'll walk through the process of replacing LG washing machine door seals, sometimes known as door boots or door gaskets, on newer model washing machines, starting in 2020. The model we have worked on is the FCV309WNE.

We would also recommend you watch our 7-minute video since we're taking you on an exclusive tour inside a LG washing machine, showcasing water valve and demystifying its function.

Safety First!

  • Unplug your washing machine before starting work.
  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Removing the Door Band & Front Panel

You can easily remove the door band by using a small screwdriver or a specialized tool known as retaining band pliers. Simply peel back the door seal.

Then open the flap and remove it, revealing two hidden screws. You may prefer to remove the door lock entirely for ease of reassembly later. After that, tilt the machine down and remove the top panel and lid.

Please remember that the whole video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.

Detaching the Soap Drawer & Soap Hose and Counterweights

Remove the soap drawer by pressing the button down and then remove the screws holding the panel in place. On newer models, the wiring harness will need to be disconnected. After removing the panel, please remove the three screws at the top. Then, you can lean the panel toward you and then lift it up to detach it.

Furthermore, the soap hose needs to be removed from the door seal by peeling it back. Please make sure the pipe and tube are clear by using a wire or another tool. After that, you can remove the counterweights to facilitate the inner retaining band's placement.

At this step, please be cautious not to overtighten the screws when reassembling, as this can strip the plastic threads.

Installing the New Washing Machine Door Seal and Retaining Bands

Use the appropriate tools to remove the springs and then remove the seal. It is beneficial for you to use a scour to clean up the surface all the way around.

Before installing the new seal, apply a small amount of detergent to the lip to help align the seal with the mark. Once you correctly positioned, make sure the seal goes into the correct location. You can adjust the seal's alignment by turning it slightly if needed.

To install the band, you can remove the spring and stretch it over the pin. Getting the band in place can be tricky and may require the correct tools, especially if you're working alone.

Reassembling the LG Washing Machine & Door Band

Now, you will be able to reinstall the counterweights and tighten them securely. Refit the soap box hose and carefully put the door lock back in place. Make sure to reinsert the wiring and replace the screws. Finally, attach the door seal onto the outer edge.

With that, you've successfully replaced the new LG washing machine door seal!

Now, it's time to put the door band back in its place. You can use an open-end spanner (preferably 11 to 13 mm), two cable ties, and your door band.

Then attach the spanner to the top of the spring and loop the cable tie through it, do the same on the other side. Stretch the spring and ensure the band fits nicely into the groove without catching the seal. Once it's in place and you're satisfied, cut off the cable ties.

After reattaching the door band, go around the edge of the door seal with your finger, ensuring that the band is perfectly placed. Now, your door seal should be securely fastened and ready for use.
