Samsung washing machines Fault codes and Errors.

samsung washing machine model numberThese codes are used on later models from about 2006 or so onwards.
Washing machine and washer dryer models will displayed as a digital code, exactly as you will see below, in an LED or LCD panel or display on the front of the washing machine.
Before you start any work or try to diagnose any fault or even remove the lid of the washing machine or washer dryer please read all below and always make sure you disconnect your washing machine from the electrical supply.

5E

Washing machine has failed to drain the water

If water level frequency is still lower than the reset level frequency (25.20kHz) in 10 minutes after starting of water drain, this error will occur.

This error code is very common and can be read as being either "2E" or "5E" due to the digital display as we are often asked what either could mean, they are the same code.

This error will be released using Start/Pause button, the washing machine will restart and attempt to drain the water out again.

  • Check pump filter is clear and there are no obstructions make sure the impeller turns freely.
  • Check the drain hose for obstruction and sink fitting if fitted.
  • Check the drain hose is not kinked.
  • Check the drain pump filter and clean if required, no coins or debris.
  • Check the air chamber and pressure sensor hose.
  • Check drain pump electrically (test).
  • Check drain pump rotor.
  • Check connections to water drain pump.

4E

This is essentially a fill timeout error which will normally mean that either the water isn't on or that an inlet valve has failed or pressure switch problem check pipes as well.
The washing machine has failed to fill with water in a reasonable time.

If there is no higher change in water frequency than 100Hz for 2 minutes during the initial time of water supply and if water level doesn't reach the pre-set level in 10 minutes, this error will occur.
This error will be released using Start/Pause button, the washing machine will restart and attempt to fill with water again.

  • Check water supply is on, clear and not frozen.
  • Check the air chamber and pressure sensor hose for blockages and check the pipes for any holes.
  • Check water inlet valve.
  • Check wiring to water inlet valve.
  • Check connections to water inlet valve.
  • Check the main control PCB

dE

Washing machine DE error, door detected as being open
The first thing to check is that the door is closed properly. When the door is closed, the latch on the door pushes into the door interlock and slides a bar over, it should latch firmly and activate a part inside the lock. At this point the power is passed from one side of the door lock to the other and on to the rest of the machine.

  • Check door is closed correctly and latched.
  • Check door handle for damage or wear.
  • Check child safety if this feature is on the machine.
  • Check door lock if inoperative replace door lock.
  • Check door lock wiring for burnt connections

UE

Washing machine has detected an imbalanced load 

This error code is more for information purposes than actually a fault as such. What the washing machine is telling you is that it has been unable to sort the laundry load and correctly spin without a risk of damage due to an unbalanced load. This error will clear when you restart the machine but do sort the laundry reduce or increase the load as required. 

  • Reload the washing machine and attempt to spin again
  • Check the installation of the washing machine for level and balance
  • Check for small loads as small loads will cause an imbalance error

3E

Motor tacho fault detected

Can also be caused by be main PCB

If the motor tacho signals are inputted less than 2 for 2 seconds after main drive motor started, this error will occur on normal brush motors and direct drive motors

  • Check carbon brushes if fitted
  • Check motor capacitor
  • Check motor
  • Check motor tacho
  • Check all connections and blocks to the motor
  • Check connections on the main control module
  • Check main control module

bE

Motor triac short error 

This can be a short circuit to motor or PCB

 If the motor tacho signals are inputted more than 300 every 1sec in the operational interval less than 90RPM, this error will occur.

  •  Check mains supply
  • Check main control module
  • Check main drive motor

OE

Washing machine has detected an overfill situation. This error code can be caused by over-foaming which is a result of overloading or by overdosing or, incorrect detergent as the pressure sensor will falsely read that there is too much water in the washing machine.

Also check the pressure sensor and that the machine has not actually overfilled with water.

If an abnormal water level frequency is sensed (for occurrence of Over Flow :21.00kHz), Auto Power Off may release this error and continuously progress water drain until the frequency reached 25.00kHz.

If Over Flow is also sensed even after the following check of water level frequency indicating that error, the washing machine will attempt to drain the water from the tank.

  • Check for over-foaming or over soaping.
  • Check the air chamber and the pressure switch hose.
  • Check water level sensor.
  • Check wiring to water pressure sensor.
  • Check connections to water level sensor.
  • Check main electronic controller

LE

Water leak detected if anti flood device fitted 

If more than 4 times of water supply and safe water level of Heater are sensed for each course, this error will occur.

  •  Check for any water leaks

HE

Water heating error detected. 

Faulty heater element and Ntc sensor on Samsung washing machines hinted by the error code HE or TE.

Usually the error code HE is shown by the machine, when there is a problem with the heating element or the NTC sensor attached to it.

In this case the fault was with the NTC sensor. Washing machine is reporting a fault on the heating circuit with this fault code but it is not capable of identifying exactly where the fault actually lies.

This error will be released by turning off power switch.

Display : “HE1"(Over Heat), Display : "HE2", indicating no operation of the heating element.

  •  Check water heating element
  • Check heater for continuity
  • Check thermistor or temperature sensor
  • Check the thermistor resistance
  • Check wiring to water heating element
  • Check connections to water heating element and temperature sensor

tE

Water heating sensor error detected 

If thermistor circuit is abnormal, this error will occur. If the thermistor is lower than 0.2V or higher than 4.5V, this error will occur. This error will be released by turning off Power switch. 

  • Check the thermistor resistance
  • Check thermistor or temperature sensor
  • Check wiring to water heating element
  • Check connections to water heating element and temperature sensor

IE

Water level sensor fault. 

Washing machine has detected an error with the pressure sensor or pressure switch. 

If the above frequency signals are displayed longer than 5 seconds, it indicates pressure switch fault. 

The washing machine will drain the water for 3 minutes for this error, and turn OFF water drain pump. 

  • Check water level sensor
  • Check wiring to water pressure sensor
  • Check connections to water level sensor
  • Check main electronic controller

CE

Abnormal water temperature detected 

Water drain begins if abnormal water temperature is sensed at the initial time of water supply. If the frequency higher than 25.20KHz is sensed, water will be drained by force. 

  • Check thermistor connections
  • Check thermistor

    I have a WF07072WKU machine. It is about 4 yrs old and has a bE2 alarm. According to the samsung website this should mean a button is sticky and calls for it to be cleaned. However it keeps blowing fuses when we turn it off. This does not seem like a sticky button problem to me. Your site here says that bE is a triac or motor short. Is the triac replaceable (I am an electronics engineer) I am at a loss which way to go at the moment and would like more advice before I rip the machine assunder to find out.

    I have a model WD1172XVM Samsung washing machine that has been showing ‘hot’ on the panel for two days and the door has remained locked for that long. I have tried switching the machine off and then on again several times, I have also let it stand overnight to see if it will cool down, based in the manual indicating it will cool down and open after a while, but this problem persists and I am unable to use the machine. Any ideas to solve the problem or to unlock the door from outside?

    My Samsung washing machine model WF42H5000A, installed on September 9, 2016 seems to have a problem with the sensor. I turn the machine on and it keeps going off and on. I do not get an error code.

    Please let me know how this problem can be fixed since I about to leave for a trip.

    Hi
    I have a Samsung ecobubble wf1124xac. It is leaking badly on a hot wash or cold wash and has now come up with the HE code. Any ideas on what the fault could be, and if it is likely to be relatively cheap to repair in relation to the cost of a new machine.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    My Samsung washer dryer combo only shows 4E on the drying cycle. During the wash cycle it fills perfectly and opperates as expected. What could be the problem?

    samsung washer model wf337aar/xaa WILL NOT SPIN OR DRAIN MAKES NOISE AS IF MOTOR IS TURNING AND DRUM MOVES BY HAN LIKE ALWAYS. I THINK MAYBE THE OUMP HAS DIS CONNECTED FROM TURNING GEAR . NEED TO FIND TUTORIAL TO TAKE APART TO SEE. WHERE THE DRAIN PUMP IS AND SEE. IF THAT IS IT!

    I have a samsung VRT washing machine. giving a ND fault code. I have removed the filter and cleaned it several times. it will not reset or go past ND fault. I can hear water coming out of the drain hose.
    Not sure what to do .

    Samsung washer WA5451anw/xaa02 will not fill and PE1 code comes on after 5 minutes. Samsung said pe1 was a clutch problem. Changed out the clutch eccentric motor but that didn’t repair its. Hope you can diagnose it. Thanks a lot..

    I have a VRT series front load washer. It runs down to 28 minutes on regular cycle then throws an nd code and stops. It doesn’t turn off, it just stops. What does this code mean and how do I fix it?
